US Erection 12 *AND* 16 *AND* 20 *AND* 22 *AND* 24

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Sounds like a sense of entitlement is bringing out all this anger. Things won't ever go back to the way they were, so may as well get used to it.

The problem with Trump's grasp of economics is that he completely lacks a grasp of economics. :|

The Economist takes an editorial stance of classical and economic liberalism that supports free trade, globalisation, free immigration, and cultural liberalism (such as supporting legal recognition for same-sex marriage or drug liberalization)
Oh golly gee I wonder why The Economist predicts doom+gloom for Trumponomics! :scowl:

They also predicted Trump had no hope in hell of getting elected President in the first place.

Pretty sure they predicted a Brexit vote would create a recession by now.

(see the pattern?)

Their problem seems to be that their political desires/agenda screws with their ability to make predictions.

Here are some more examples:

Pink Per and his poppycock "predictive" propaganda...

after 20+ years of subscribing to The Economist, I stopped just over a year ago. They have lost their edge and humour, now only finding the soft targets.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Don't confuse "economic liberalism" with the use of the word liberal in American politics. Reagan and Thatcher were both economic liberals, and the Republican party is normally the more pronounced free trade party in the US. Anyone who has studied economics tends to support free trade and globalisation, as the evidence of its benefits are overwhelming. Protectionism is basically only embraced by Socialists and the extreme right, that has gone so far to the right that they have come full circle. It is thus completely logical that a magazine called the Economist, which was founded in the 19th century to promote free trade, and mainly sees business people and economists as their core audience, would support these common sense principles. That they also favour cultural liberalism is just a bonus! 8-)

As for Brexit, the vote doesn't necessarily trigger a recession; it's the actual Brexit, two years down the line, that will. But for now, you can see the drop in faith in the British economy by looking at the effect the vote has had on the exchange rate:

As for pink, if I lived in Vancouver, I'd probably vote for the BC Liberals, but if that's pink for you.... yeah, whatever.

Per hopefully my points about why The Economist would be biased against Trump/Brexit weren't lost on you.

A lot of top economists support Trumponomics...

“There is a broad consensus that the kind of policies that our president-elect has proposed are among the polices that will not work,” said Joseph Stiglitz, summing up the views of the panel that included his fellow Columbia University professor Edmund Phelps and Yale University’s Robert Shiller.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... economists

There are a lot of businessmen that welcome his proposals of tax cuts, tariffs, etc, but not many economists.
Businessmen tend to have a more short term bias in their decision making, and economists tend to be more concerned about long term effects. A lot of what Trump suggests is like peeing in your boots to keep your feet warm in the winter. The short term effect is excellent, but the long term effects might include losing your limbs.

Oh, and this:
Three hundred and seventy economists, including eight Nobel Prize winners, co-signed a letter that asserts, “Donald Trump is a dangerous, destructive choice for the country.

Probably kind of like how the FBI and CIA also feel about him.... :|

Yes but that was then and this is now.

I hear conscription is back in Sweden.

Hopefully not too many of your relatives end up on the Russian Front. :|
