Odds of dmen reaching this potential:
Edler - 75%
Hutton - 60%
Juolevi - 60%
Larsen - 50%
Gudbranson - 40%
Tryamkin - 30%
Stecher - 30%
Pedan - 15%
Sbisa - 10%
Tanev - 0%

So we should average out about 3.5 dee attaining this goal, all while doing cartwheels. But I'm only half right 90% of the time!

As an asside who are the pk forwards this coming year?
Brandon Sutter, Hansen, Burrows..... I think Brendan Gaunce could be a contributor here but I'm unsure if he will make the team.Granlund seems to have that 4th line job wrapped up.

I guess Loui can pk.Horvat who I love ,struggled on the pk last season as did Dorsett, but with the lack of depth , they will both get a lot of pk minutes. The twins used to be good on the pk but not so much anymore. Baertschi and Etem are not penalty killers at all. Not sure about Rodin. The d for the pk looks ok but the forward brigade is definitely on the weak side.

We have some of the finest PKers in all of hockey with Sutter, Eriksson, Burrows, Hansen. :mex:

Gaunce and Granlund ain't too shabby.

And we've got Dorsett in a pinch.

Yeah, Bo should see less PK duty this year...

I think Bo will see time just for his ability to win faceoffs.

Yeah Bo needs to work on a lot of things yet, experience definitely wins with a successful penalty kill.

A good breakdown of the current recent Canucks team. http://thecanuckway.com/2016/10/17/vanc ... alty-kill/

Sutter-Hansen-Sbisa-Gudbranson good.
There are different ways to set up a power play and different ways to defend each strategy. However, a simple box seems proven as the best PK strategy against both overload and umbrella power-play tactics. In the image above, the first unit of Brandon Sutter, Jannik Hansen, Erik Gudbranson and Luca Sbisa executed it perfectly.

On first sight, it may look like the exact opposite. Gudbranson is attacking the puck carrier and Hansen is covering a passing lane, but Sbisa and Sutter seem to be standing around, not doing anything. Well, that’s often the best way to defend a power play. In the example above, the puck carrier has essentially just two options: he can either play a pass up the boards or back to the man behind the net. He opted for the latter option, since Hansen had the boards covered. As that happened, both Gudbranson and Sbisa collapsed in front of the net and Gudbranson blocked the following pass.

All you really need for a successful penalty kill is a box that moves as a unit, as well as players that understand the concept of angling. The players in the box get aggressive once the puck gets into a dangerous area, but sit back otherwise. All they need to do is close lanes and funnel the puck carrier into the area they want him in.
Bo Horvat, Loui Eriksson, Chris Tanev and Alex Edler bad.
In the sequence above, all four players were constantly chasing the puck. Instead of funnelling the puck carrier into the area they want them in, they constantly had to adjust to where the puck went and how they needed to react.

That is almost never a result of a perfectly executed power play, but simply a terrible penalty kill.

We don’t know what strategy the coaches wanted this unit to play, but watching the whole sequence, it looked like they were going for the simple box as well — it just didn’t work out.
The unit of Sutter-Hansen-Sbisa-Gudbranson showed how it can and needs to work. It is the coaching staff’s task to find more units that can work the same way sooner rather than later.

With our shitty powerplay and injuries on defense (Hutton, Larsen, Guds)...

Wonder if giving Jordan Subban a shot on our anemic powerplay might give it a boost.

He'd get schooled defensively for sure, but if Willie can use him wisely in mostly offensive zone situations, this could work out, doesn't hurt to try! unless the Canucks are racist. aha jk.

Well so far Stecher hasn't really given our PP a boost.....but that's because he's on the first unit with the legendary PK'ers Henrik and Daniel.

Move Stecher to the 2nd unit with Bo and whoever and see what happens. That'll be the litmus test to see if it's worth even trying anything else on the 1st unit with the Sedins.

Time for management and the coaching staff to throw in the towel with the 1st-unit powerplay and look at building up the 2nd. The Sedins will never change their powerplay strategy - it wouldn't matter if Scotty Bowman were to come from the dead and gift them with the most ingenious plan, they would still have Hank standing at the right half-boards playing catch with Danny behind the net and hoping to thread the puck through legs and sticks for the back-door shot or something like that. They will not change, no matter how much lack of success stares them in the face. The 1st unit with the twins is a dead baby.

Now is the time for Jarvis and Desjardins to come up for a new powerplay deployment and scheme centred around Horvat and the youngsters. Put him, Baertschi and Granlund together (or Tryamkin if you want a net-front presence but you'd hope BFG has the hands for it). Forget wasting Stetcher and Hutton on the twins - the twins can get Edler, Tanev and Ericksson on their unit till they retire - put the youngsters with the 2nd unit and let them gel. Putting any youngsters with the twins on the 1st unit is a waste of time. If management wants them to learn from the twins about how to handle a powerplay, send them video from 2011.

If anything is evidence that the team has to start looking past the Sedins now it's the powerplay this season.

The only times now that the twins have looked, well, a little less predictable, is when they have played with Hansen, who never, never gets a sniff on the PP ??? Hell, I'd try Hansen on the point.

I'd split the twins up on the PP. Danny/Granlund/Erickson with Stecher/Tree can't be any worse than the Twins (although, Skille/Hank/Megna might be worse :) ). And, once Hansen is back, yes, please get him on the PP, and see what speed can do.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Yeah as nifty as Stecher is, he's just not ready for the top tier #1 powerplay just yet, in time sure, but for right now Troy would be best on the 2nd unit, unfortunately we don't have anyone else really that can transition as good as Stech can at the moment, no experienced QB guy to man the point, carry the puck up, move around, pass/setup good chances.

Tryamkin seems to blooming right before our eyes, but prefer to gradually give him more responsibility.

What this team needs is a Oliver Ekman-Larsson, he was crazy good with the Sedins & Eriksson on Team Sweden, hey Per?

--

Just looking at how the Bruins got a NHL #1 ranked powerplay in 2015 with Krug and Eriksson...
Indeed, the Bruins currently attain the No. 1 power play in the NHL with a power-play percentage of 32.3. Boston’s No. 1 power-play unit of Ryan Spooner – Patrice Bergeron – Loui Eriksson, with David Krejci flanking Torey Krug on the blue line, have taken it to their opponents. With Krejci overseeing the playing field from the blue line, he orchestrates the man advantage when Bergeron wins the faceoff. From there, Krug and Krejci typically exchange passes, surveying their options. Spooner takes directly to his prototypical position along the boards outside the face-off circle.

Once the puck is on Spooner’s stick, he’s looking for a stick or a body upfront crashing the net. Either he’ll throw a puck on net or he’ll dish the puck off to the blue line. Krejci may slide down from the blue line on the weak side anticipating a pass. The passing creates mismatches, space, and traffic for the goaltender.

Bergeron and Eriksson each have netted five goals on the power play. They roam the slot in anticipation for a pass, deflection, or rebound. Spooner, with two power play goals, works as the playmaker.

http://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/bost ... to-impress
I really think Subban deserves a look, if only just for the powerplay, if not lets get Spooner as the Bruins been shopping him around awhile now supposedly. :D

Willie sounding rather stubborn on NOT changing the first unit PP.
No idea why?
I'm never going to figure this guy out.
Maybe he thought everyone was criticizing him earlier in the year for not sticking with lines.
Now he's sticking with lines and pairings no matter how inept it looks.
Confusing. Maybe he's just doing what he's told. (shrugging the shoulders smiley).
