I've had enough of tanking. It leaves a bad taste.

That's REALLY interesting. Fits right in with their desire to get rid of Gudbranson.SKYO wrote:Just stop already sheesh lol.Island Nucklehead wrote:drivel

I like fancy stats a whole lot... but I suppose there are a lot of boats and a lot of sharks in south Florida.
Time to go shark jumping!!!
I'm beyond curious to see how their team does the next few years.

Detroit did even better than that.Island Nucklehead wrote:Keep in mind, Datsyuk isn't going to be getting paid anything, a team like Arizona/New Jersey/Buffalo/Carolina etc. could get a 2nd rounder, reach the cap floor, and not add a cent to their salary structure.

Nope he's going to the Oilers now.Hank wrote:No to Tkachuk. Does that mean Lucic is now a guarantee?

Re: Draft Day 2016
Detroit are the runaway winners here. Especially with Yzerman now stating he will do a sign and trade for Stamkos.
All but guaranteed that Stammer lands in Detroit now. Either as a free agent, or Stevie Y gets an asset back and makes a deal with his old franchise.
Arizona's GM is a moron and got schooled by Holland.

Sure we were the goalie graveyard for a while - but what the hell will call Edmonton?

Speaking of that, where's your sidekick Rummy?

Tkachuk is not an asshole, he's an ass!Hockey Widow wrote:Asshole falls to Calgary
(the apple doesn't fall far from the tree)
Did you catch him on Coach's Corner with the other 4 top ranked forwards.
Asked who his favorite player in the NHL is... he responded: "Corey Perry".
Now that's bad enough in and of itself
... but he was standing next to Laine at the time who was still recovering from a Perry cheapshot.
Laine and Matthews looked at each other with WTF-smiles... Tkachuk was oblivious.
So yeah, Tkachuk is is a dumb-dumb who doesn't skate well and doesn’t backcheck.
He was playing on an awesome line with the Knights but definitely wasn't the straw stirring the drink.
As I've said all along, I was hoping for PLD at #5... but wasn't really expecting him to be there.
Flames were said to be hot for Juolevi, so pretty hard to play the trade-down game after PLD was gone.
I'm happy with Olli at #5.

Re: Draft Day 2016
so apparently Juolevi is "on loan" from his Finish pro team, and as such can go to the AHL directly? Seems a bit strange, as he was drafted by the Knights in an import draft and the Canucks picked him from the CHL. If that's the case, he could go to the AHL next year and be available as a call-up as required.
I think I'd rather have him go back to junior regardless (get bigger, save the ELC)...
Doc, got any research on this?

Re: Draft Day 2016
Warming up to this pick but wanted the top line forward potential and asshole factor of Little Walt. Fuck it if the Finn can be an Ohlund type player , I'm in. Top pairing d are hard to find. Would have rather seen Tkachuk in Phoenix though, have a bad feeling Alberta is going to be laying some beatings this way over the next couple years.
I just wish Elmer would clean up his act a bit and start behaving like a professional. Every time he opens his yap he sounds like he just wolfed back a 26 of Canadian Club. Between they and the potential tampering charge he needs to understand he's a figurehead of a huge business. This isn't Pacific Blue offering to tint the windows at the Dufferin for Freestyle Friday's.

Is it just me?...
Or does the Detroit Darlings/Arizona Special Needs deal smell funny?
I probably just don't understand how the rules work... But how is it that the (apparently retroactively illegal) Luongo deal will cost the Canucks dearly should he decide to retire (obviously completely beyond their control), while Datsyuk openly retires, leaving Detroit hanging with his 7+million in cap... And they are permitted to artificially create cap space by dumping that contract to Arizona (who want to "circumvent" the cap floor)?
Smells like c(r)ap circumvention.
But hey... Detroit/Arizona. Nuff said.
Happy enough with the pick at #5 though... Feels relatively safe. Risks are going to have to be taken at some point though, and like others have mentioned... I'd much rather see Benning take risks to obtain picks rather than taking chances on trades/FA signings.

Where is the Dude in all this?
RoyalDude wrote:Dude on this picI would have serious HFboard Benning hate like the Blob'IN crew if we don't walk out of this draft with one of Tkachuk or PLD. I'm sorry but we got bigger problems at forward once the 36 year old Sedins retire than we do at defence. Juolevi, Sergachyov and Chychrun are "maybe" top pairing D men while PLD and Tkachuk are pretty much guaranteed first line players.
