How many privately financed stadiums arenas are getting built these days?
its a combo, the city, investors etc.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Some Article wrote:As Ken Boehlke of Sin Bin Vegas notes, the locker rooms in the arena are being labeled “NHL Locker Room” along with a dozen other harbingers:

It’s clear MGM and AEG believe the NHL is coming to Vegas, and soon. They’ve held off the paint in the locker rooms, they’ve purposely not booked the arena from September 2017-June 2018, and they’ve got a Zamboni Room, a skates and sticks room and now NHL locker rooms.

So yeah, they’re ready for the NHL in Vegas.

But is the NHL ready for Vegas?

Expansion now, for the start of 2016 would kill us. The expansion team, if it's just one, will supposedly get the 3rd or 4th overall pick. Can you imagine being bumped to drafting 6th this year!
The only HW the Canucks need

Does anyone else think that if expansion happens in both 17/18 and 18/19, that it might actually be a good idea to dump the draft lottery and try it the old way again? :?: :?: :?:

There are many factors to think about, in fact, too much to list, but it is my opinion that this league is not yet healthy enough to expand.
At this point, relocations are a better option.
Garry Bettman is an idiot, he's bias and not to be believed. He blows sunshine but right now there isn't much.
Television contracts;
MLB-12.4 billion
NBA-24. billion
NFL-27. billion
NHL, Canada-5.232 billion, 12 year contract.
NHL, U.S.-2. billion, 10 year contract.
Bettman was so pleased with that US deal, well, guess what? it blows. 10 years, are you kidding me? How can the league grow?
He did alright on sponsorship, around 470 mill in 14/15. The NBA was just over 700.

Bettman's price for a franchise is 500 million. You know what that is? It's his prayer for a quick fix!. Bad business.
A more realistic number would be 200 million tops.

No Canadian teams in the playoffs. No big market US teams left in the playoffs. T.V. ratings in the toilet!
O.K., a fluke year, but how often can the league afford a season like this?
Phoenix, and I say that because if you've ever been there you know what a ridiculous spot Glendale is for an arena,
Carolina, Florida and others soon, are NOT going to make it, long term.
For the health of the league, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver better start fielding competitive teams and getting their asses into the playoffs soon.
If anyone thinks we don't count for much up here in Canada, well we do, f**king big time we do.
The NHL needs a new commissioner soon because it doesn't look too good five years down the road and that's without a recession.........thanks for reading :?

Not that I'm a Bettman fan in any way - but you realize he signed a new contract in Jan that takes him to 2022, right? Things won't be changing anytime soon.

If Bettman can get one team to pony up $500mil rather than two teams at $200mil each, then he's made his employers happy. If he can get Vegas to pay the extortion franchise fee rather than relocate a struggling franchise, then he's made his employers happy.

The business end of the NHL sucks, and I hate thinking about it. I still blame Bobby Hull and his WHA contract. :?

That 10 year deal you're complaining about may end up being the high water mark micky.

I don't know when it's going to change, but ESPN are already cutting costs.. how many cable subscribers are there going to be in a decade, each giving a few dollars to major networks like that whether they watch it or not?

Where is the money going to come from to keep bloating live sports broadcast rights fees?

I guess I was thinking along the lines that the US college system is improving and getting more notoriety and interest and if it continues, why wouldn't it make sense Americans wanting to watch their guys in the NHL. Obviously not to the degree of NBA or NFL but more than what has been..

The league made something like a third of the per annum sum on the rights deal prior to this one, and were basically giving them away for free after the 2004-05 lockout..

Considering the TV contracts the current ones replaced, the new deals are phenomenal. They also cover more than TV rights with the forward thinking of including all streaming rights.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

There will be no expansion, who will pay $500 for an expansion team?

Buttman is blowing sunshine up the owners ass.

The way the league panders to specific teams wrecks the league, yes sour grapes there.

Lastly all the streaming issues will impact all leagues not just the NHL and the way the companies like Telus rips us users off with their high costs no wonder people are moving away from TV.

If the Raiders move to Vegas before the NHL gets there, the NHL franchise will be dead in the water.
Word out of Las Vegas is the Bill Foley expansion group is getting more than a little anxious while waiting to find out from the NHL if they are getting a team.

The clock is ticking and groups in both Las Vegas and Quebec City still have no indication from the NHL about its decision on the subject of expansion.

And while the NHL’s executive committee continues to mull adding a team or teams, the NFL has begun to kick the tires on Las Vegas.
