Burrows & Higgins to NYR - AV will vouch for Bur, and Burr will be far from Vancouver, they have a worse cap and want to dump Staal or Girardi, we'll take the least concussed dude, Girardi and Etem.
True that, just saying if you want those picks/prospects teams gotta retain % most likely, otherwise we gotta take cap back in this cap world, lots of intangibles at play.
Panthers want to acquire goalscorer by deadline, says Tallon...
One name to keep an eye on could be Vancouver forward Radim Vrbata. The two-time 30-goal scorer is a pending UFA and has ties to Tallon, as the two spent time together in Chicago.
Tallon, then the ‘Hawks GM, first traded to get Vrbata out of Carolina, then signed him to a two-year extension.
As for Tallon’s ability to make a move — well, there doesn’t appear to be many impediments.
He has the full backing of ownership and a history of bold moves on his resume. Two years ago, he made the blockbuster deal to get Roberto Luongo from Vancouver and, at last year’s deadline, acquired Jagr from New Jersey.
Now, he sure sounds like a guy that’s prepared to make another acquisition.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."
The best part of this (cough cough) rebuild is looking at every loss as one step closer to a high pick and a return to potential. The last couple of years have seen a lot of anxiety and misplaced hubris for our canucks generated by us fans. It is a relief to give up on getting past round one when we know we will not and focus on the future.

Vrbata might fetch a 2nd and a 3rd, depending on his play the next couple months. The league knows where this guy goes in the playoffs.
We ain't getting a first for Vrbata. We might still get a first for Hamhuis as he will be cleared to play this season, he did not suffer a season ending injury. He plays defence, which is coveted for playoff runs.
Other than that we can dump players for maybe seconds, thirds and fourths. Now if we traded Edler.....
Yup you guys are right about what a veteran scoring winger and what they net at the deadline, especially comparing it to the Gaborik deal.
However a good top 4 vet dman nets the highest return towards the deadline.
Yandle _ meh prospect + 4th for Moore, Duclair, 1st and 2nd.
Braydon Coburn got a prospect, 1st and 3rd.
Sekera for Roland McKeown and cond. 1st
While...
Connolly got two 2nds.
Stewart & Vey both netted 2nd's.
Erik Cole + cond. 3rd for two prospects (too lazy to see if prospects) and 2nd
Jagr for 2nd and 3rd. Gaborik for Frattin + 2nd and 3rd
So is it even worth trading Radim Vrbata? Might as well just try to trade Hamhuis if he heals up fast enough.
Hence! we should try to trade Burrows for any veteran dman like Girardi, as no team is gonna trade us picks/prospects for AB.
With Girardi here we can trade Hamhuis for that sexy trade deadline return for a top4 vet dmen.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."
Skyo you trade Vrbata even if it's just a third because he ain't coming back. So why not try to get any pick for an expiring vet. At least he looked to be expiring in the playoffs last season.
A healthy Hamhuis is the only pending UFA we have of value. But if we decided to trade Sbisa or Edler we could also bet a nice return. As it is we don't have any vet players outside the twins of any real value. There will be no expedited rebuild now for jettisoning vets. Just no real value.
We could secure some seconds or later but that's really it. But if we are going to sign Lucic and Stamkos we need to shed cap
Yeah I would love for the Canucks to sign Lucic but I doubt he wants anything to do with playing here . The team is old , soft and won't be competitive for years and the front office is a bit of a dog and pony show . I don't think LA will have the cap space to bring him back so it will be interesting to see where he lands . He'd look damn good in Dallas .
