No, and I've never heard of a good center who couldn't play wing.
Topper, you're comparing the Vancouver Canucks to Canada's Olympic team? Did you forget your Adderall today?

Fucking hilarious.

We have too many third line centers. So many in fact, that one of them plays on the second line. :?
And once again Topper, you contribute absolutely fuck all to the conversation.

No where in my post did I slot anyone into the 2nd line center position.

Do me a favour and block me eh?

With regards to moving Vey to wing to make way for Hovat, I thought of that.

And I also asked myself why didn't the Kings do this as well. I did a "quick" analysis of the King's line up and compared it against our line up.

Image

My Canuck conclusions from this are:

1. We need Nicklas Jensen and Bo Horvat in the line up.
2. Unless Vey is a Chris Chelios, David Booth, freak of nature, he's not strong enough or heavy enough to be an effective winger.
3. If Vey does indeed have the physical gifts to be an effective winger, then I'd rather dump Derek Dorsett than either Chris Higgins, Brad Richardson or Jannik Hansen. Sucks for Derek but all three of those guys have more offensive ability than Derek.

My King conclusions are, I think they're going to win another SC this year. :(

Lots of centres, not so sure about depth. Too many unknowns at this point, we'll have to see how it plays out. Matthias, Bonino, Vey, Horvat, richardson are all natural centres but at least two have to play wing for now. Not a bad thing to have versatility in the lineup.

I'd suggest we are a bit early to have this conversation - if all guys are here and playing well in a month or two then it becomes an issue. It's a good issue though, one I would take all day long.

Given the number of years and the number of games we bemoaned the fact that we were not deep at centre, and given that Hank is the only one with PROVEN top six material, I don't think we have too many players who can play centre, at all. Silly talk a yeR too early, at least.

No kidding. Considering last year we had Sedin-Kesler-Santorelli-Richardson to start and then added Matthias later on after Santorelli went down.

Nice that we have options, and hopefully Horvat can make an impact when he gets healthy. But I still don't see a bonafide second line guy and Bonino/Vey might not be cut out for a shut down role. Richardson and Mathias are both capable 4th liners but I don't see enough offense nor do I really see much in the way of a quality shut down guy that can go against number 1 lines.

Again, we COULD have great C depth, but at this point we don't really know if Bonino is a legit 2nd liner, if Vey is a legit NHL'er or if Horvat can handle legit NHL minutes. Too many question marks.

The problem with Vey he's just another fucking tweener. Not good enough for 2nd line center and not suited for 3rd and 4th line centre duties. He's nothing more than a Wellwood PP specialist. Horvat with his strength at draws, 200 foot game, ability to create offence, hard to bang off the puck etc is the better choice at 3rd line centre than Vey, same goes for Matthias who is also a better choice at 3rd line centre than Vey

A tad early possibly and I personally blame diehard1.

When diehard1 mentioned Kyle Wellwood, I had some bad flashbacks. He said he was pretty happy on picking up Vey... :D and then he said Kyle Wellwood... :scowl:

It got me thinking about whether Vey was too good to be true and if Vey didn't fit on the Kings team then maybe Lombardi knows something we don't.

I guess we'll see over the next 80 games!

Ok, nothing to see here. Carry on carrying on.

No kidding, quantity over quality. This team is going to have to win by committee. Our best FO center is playing wing! Not even close to the quality depth we had down the middle in 2011 (pre-Malhotra injury).

The Turbo is one fine piece of ass.

Anyway. I am actually ok with our second line with the exception of Chris Higgins. Swap him with Jensen and live with the learning curve. Higgins plays on the third line where there is less pressure to score consistantly and he will shine. Plan the parade.........to the first overall pick.
