Either you're calling me a liar, or you're defending a segment that involved a discussion about a woman shoving a model plane up her...

Cool man. Cool.

On Thu Apr 17, 2014 7:44 am, Mondi, you stated the following:

Mondi wrote:I haven't listened to the 1040 in the morning since they changed format from sports talk to right wing radio for 15 year boys.

Well, Sat Apr 19, 2014 1:15 pm you wrote a follow-up comment:

Mondi wrote:Even if the show has improved (which I don't think it has), it's still infused with useless banter about non-sports topics and Pratt's hyperbolic takes. I understand he wants to create controversy, but its an act that's worn thin.

A ten minute segment on that US Airways tweet was enough to confirm that the show is garbage. I tune in once in a blue moon and they are on about a pornographic tweet.

Lame.

A couple of days ago you stated you allegedly hadn't "listened" to the Morning Show, since the change over to the Bro Jake Show featuring the Pratt Man ... a few days later, you go into specific details that only someone who had "listened" to the show could write about. I'm not aware of when they allegedly talked about the US Airways tweet since I don't listen to all four hours of the show every week and miss some days, but I can only assume it occurred between Thursday, April 17th to Friday, April 18th and, you, for, duh, research purposes, tuned in to find that alleged unsavory banter.

Ha, fine I've listened for a couple of minutes from time to time on my drive to work.

You caught me in an elaborate deception designed to fool you into thinking I don't listen to or like the show.

The point is that from listening to a couple of hours each morning while getting ready for, and commuting to work, I've gone to listening maybe once every couple of weeks for a few minutes.

The last time I tuned in, it was a 10 minute segment about that the tweet. And, from my limited experience with the show, I find that that is the kind of bullshit those guys talk about around half of the time.

I think you may have caught the show during their newly installed, WTF? highlight of the day segment. It airs @ the same time, each day, just like Pratt's Rants. So if you truly have utter contempt for that style of programming, just make note of the time they air, and switch to another station, or turn it off. The CHAMP segments also had a scheduled airtime, and that segment annoyed me enough, that I turned it off during the times it aired unless I was too busy to do it.

Sportstalk’s Dan Russell to sign off after 30-year run
By Brad Ziemer, Vancouver Sun April 25, 2014 1:31 PM

via: http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Spor ... story.html

VANCOUVER — Dan Russell calls it a hiatus, not a retirement, but after nearly 30 years he is ending his nightly Sportstalk radio show.

Russell will wish his listeners one more "pleasant good evening" when he does his final show next Thursday night on CISL AM 650.

Russell moved to AM 650 last September after a nearly quarter-century run on CKNW. He bought his own airtime at the Richmond station and sold advertising to try and keep the show going.

"I knew that when I had to take this on my own that I would be the first to know if it was going to make it or not," Russell said Friday. "We actually had a really good start last fall with sponsorship, but I found it extremely challenging to add to what we had and even maintain what we had. There are so many options for sponsors these days. It's very, very competitive and I am not a sales person per se.

"It has been a long run and at some point a change is needed. I'm not thinking of retiring. I am going to take a hiatus on the daily show."

Russell intends to keep his Sportstalk brand alive. He will continue a Sunday night golf show on AM 650 with Bill Wilms and Fraser Mulholland. And he plans to continue podcasts and blogs on his sportstalkbc.ca website.

One less alternative voice to hear within the local MSM with Russell leaving the radio airwaves. But the article suggests that he will still have a place to air his viewpoints within social media via podcasts and blogs and via his website.

I think the lack of any response to the end of his historic three decade run says it all about DR's relevance or rather irrelevance in today's marketplace. :hmmm:

Had to comment on Gallagher's laughable column this morning, about how Linden needs to hurry up enacting his plan (or maybe he doesn't have one, because because...Gallagher hasn't seen it!). The reason? Not really clear, since season ticket holders have until early July to get a refund. What's the real reason, because reporters/columnists like Gallagher are desperate for something to write about, so they create a false sense of urgency.

This is where the Van hockey media is especially insidious, creating false problems for the sake of, well, for the sake of something to write about. It's pretty obvious some good candidates for GM and Coaching positions are likely still working for playoff teams, so acting quickly could actually hurt the team by not being patient for the right person, but then what would Tony G write about. He also seems obsessed with figure that the Canucks were the #2 revenue team. Is that like winning the President's trophy? Anything to defend his boy Gillis I guess.

Exactly. The season starts in October. Linden doesn't need to justify or explain anything in the meantime.

Yes...I agree...nothing to write about so lets create a crisis...Gallagher is just stirring the pot.

You don't hire a new president, with no experience and expect him to move quickly....especially when the best candidates are with teams still in the playoffs. The GM that Linden hires will set the direction for the franchise for the next 5+ years, so he better get it right.

Was kinda hoping though, that Linden would fire Tortorella already. On the other hand, it would make sense that any new GM would want to at least talk to Torts and get his opinions on certain players...and then fire him.

The other issue I wonder about is; who will be making the draft choices at the end of June? Or discussing trades (like Kesler). If the new GM is not available for a while...will it be Gillman and Delorme? Scary thought.

duh, yes he does. The deposits made by STHs' are refundable up to July 11th. So there is still a "consumer confidence" issue that the President has to instill on the fanbase and keeping them abreast of the situation would be something they should do, unlike what was followed by the "BC Angels model." 8-)

That's BS pedalled by self righteous media. Fans can return their tickets as well, as consumers, that's their choice. The next person on the "paid" waiting list will snap them up. This idea that Linden (via blood oath) has to please the media & the fans now, reveal his "game plan" is laughable. Hockey is entertainment, and that occurs on the ice 6 months from now. That's the product. What happens off it & in the meantime is not the "right" of media & fans to be kept abreast of. It's a want, an interest, and a promotional trailer. Hype. If only politicians were held so accountable...

Linden will inform the scribes & plebs when the time is right.
