It's time for ol' yeller to be taken behind the barn and put out of its misery, so to speak.

I'd like to see more of Archie and Corrado, and get our first look at Markstrom and Grenier.

Oh well, looks like somewhere between 10th & 12th overall draft pick. :?

Why? As it stands now the Canucks are 21st overall.

20 New Jersey: 76GP - 80P
21 Vancouver: 77GP - 79P
22 Ottawa: 76GP - 78P
23 Winnipeg: 76GP - 78P
24 Carolina: 76GP - 77P
25 Nashville: 76GP - 77P

The Canucks have a good chance of finishing as low as 25th overall. That would certainly land them with something in the top 10. There is potential for top 6.

I would wager the Canucks going 2-2-1 over their past 5 (LA, ANA, COL, EDM, CGY). Gives us 84 points.

Nashville has ANA, DAL, SJ, PHX, CHI, MIN. Ouch.
Carolina has DAL, NJ, NYR, WSH, DET, PHI
Winnipeg has PIT, TOR, MIN, BOS, CGY
Ottawa has MTL, NYR, NYI, NJ, TOR, PIT

Remember New Jersey gets 30th overall pick no matter how they finish for the Kovalchuk deal, so if they finish below the Canucks we move up one.

Based on that list I don't think we catch Nasvhille. All these teams are also playing roughly .500 hockey, so I don't think we're going to "make up" much ground. If the wheels keep coming off in Toronto, they could get into that top-10 range too.

We'll see, but I imagine we'll be picking between 8-11.

Yep, you're right. I should have said 6th - 11th ;)

Those 3 losses to Dallas are going to haunt this team.

For the Canucks to make the playoffs they will have to go 4-0-0 and the Stars will have to post a record no better than 0-3-2. That would bring their records to the following.....

Vancouver: 39-32-11 = 89pts
Dallas: 38-31-13 = 89pts

Unless I'm mistaken wins is the first tie-breaker still. If Dallas wins one more game the Canucks cannot make the playoffs because Dallas would have the edge in ROW and also the season series.

I just can't see the Stars playing that poorly through 5 games.

I know I was at a couple, LA, Chicago, and Florida come to mind.
Let's not forget the debacle that was NYI 7 third period goals.
The only HW the Canucks need

Some would say you jinxed the Kings in posting that yesterday.

... and further conclude that perhaps you jinx the Canucks when you attend games. :mex:

Hell, you just may be personally responsible for jinxing your Vancouver Canucks out of a Stanley Cup!

I mean... uh... those who believe in jinxes might say dat dere....

So who would rather finish ahead of the Leaves and lose a spot or two in the draft?

Code: Select all

19 __ Toronto _____ 79 __ 2-8-0 __ Lost 1
20 __ Washington __ 78 __ 4-3-3 __ Won 1
21 __ Nashville ____ 78 __ 6-3-1 __ Won 3
22 __ Vancouver ___ 78 __ 5-4-1 __ Won 1
23 __ Ottawa _____ 78 __ 5-4-1 __ Won 1
24 __ Winnipeg ____ 79 __ 4-5-1 __ Won 1
25 __ Carolina _____ 78 __ 5-3-2 __ Lost 1

First tiebreaker is regulation plus ot (row)

So Dallas has to go max 0-3-1 and Phoenix 1-1-1 (they have to beat DAL)

Nashville has all of a sudden entered the mix...they play each of Phoenix and Dallas once. Nashville can go 3-0-1.

If Vancouver wins out in regulation
Dallas only needs 2 point to eliminate Canucks
Phoenix needs 3 (they well end up with same points but 1 less row)
Nashville ideally beats both Dallas and Phoenix and loses one their remaining two.

Too much has to happen.

Dallas
Tue vs Nashville
Wed vs Columbus
Fri vs St. Louis
Sun at Phoenix

Coyotes
Tue at Columbus
Thu at Nashville
Sat vs San Jose
Sun vs Dallas

Nashville
Tue at Dallas
Thu vs Phoenix
Sat vs Chicago
Sun at Minnesota

If this happens:
Dallas - Reg Loss to Nashville, St. Louis and Phoenix - OTL to Columbus
Coyotes - Reg win against Columbus and Dallas, Reg loss to San Jose and Nashville
Nashville - Reg win against Dallas and Phoenix, 3 points against Chicago and Minnesota
Vancouver - Win remaining 4 in regulation

Final Standings
8. Van - 39-32-11 (34 ROW) = 89 pts
9. Pho - 38-30-14 (32 ROW) = 89 pts
10. Nas - 38-33-12 (35 ROW) = 88 pts
11. Dal - 38-32-11 (35 ROW) = 88 pts

Vancouver plays STL in the first round, who've they've beat all three times this season.

Me.

It'd be awesome to pick after them and still end up with the better player!

Although some may feel our Canucks, against the odds, are destined to win the draft lottery.

But then some may believe our Canucks, against the odds, are destined to make the playoffs.

2000-1?

Others still may believe our Canucks, against all odds, are destined to win the Stanley Cup.

30,000-1?

But I digress….

The odds of our Canucks picking a better player in the draft this year are very good.

These two teams will likely draft within a couple of spots of each other.
