Hey Mondi,
You're probably right, but here was the (attempted) thinking process behind my question:
1) The Canucks would go back to their old 2008-2012 style of play (I.e. Up tempo, puck possesion, etc).
2) There likely wouldn't be as many freak long term injuries as we experienced this year.
3) The Sedin's increase their point totals since them and Burrows would be moved down to the second line where they would face weaker defense pairings and weaker lines. Canucks would essentially have two first lines.
4) Staal and Kesler would feed off of one another and atleast one of those guys would go back to producing/playing like they did during their respective peaks.
5) Staal's presence would help our power play.
There would be a rippling effect.
That was my thinking process behind this idea, but again........it's incredibly risky. Our farm would be quite depleted and this team could end up following in the footsteps of both Calgary and Toronto (I.e. Massive playoff droughts).
This thread was also made under the assumption that Gillis is committed to this core, and that he believes that injuries and the wrong system are to blame for this year's lackluster season.

Agree with this.Mondi wrote:This team is not Eric Staal away from competing. Come on.
I could see this group still missing the playoffs with E. Staal.
That idea is worse than Gallagher suggesting getting one of Moulson, Cammalleri or Vanek is all we need to get back to the promised land. LOL

Riduculous . You mix in a Keith, Weber, Karlsson, Doughty, Boyle, Pietroangelo etc, this teams d is fine. It lacks the star power atm but there are maybe 10 - 15 star d men in the NHL but a d of:Mondi wrote:I got your rationale, I just hope Gillis isn't committed to this slow, and aging core.
No team wins the cup with Edler, Garrison, and Stanton in their top 6 Ds.
any of the above
Hamhuis
Bieksa
Edler
Garrison
Stanton
as a top 6 is more than fine.
The forwards need to be revamped and the team needs to acquire a stud on the blueline. Pointing fingers at those three guys is a bit shortsighted. I have no idea how the hell Eye Bags can get a stud on d but it is a prerequesite to winning the cup despite 2006.
Edler, Garrison at 3 , 4 and 6 or 4, 5 and 6 is pretty damned good when you have a horse leading the pack.

Horvat + Shinkaruk + two 1st rounders to Nashville for Weber?Blob Mckenzie wrote:Riduculous . You mix in a Keith, Weber, Karlsson, Doughty, Boyle, Pietroangelo etc, this teams d is fine.
