LOL treating him nicely Farhan...The Brown Knight wrote: All of these accomplishments are greater than those achieved by Toronto's core consisting of Sundin, Gilmour, Clark, Tucker, etc., etc. In fact, that core's greatest accomplishment outside of 2002, was their Conference final run in 1994 where they were defeated by the Canucks in 5 games.
Taking this all into consideration, I don't think it's becoming of you to hold a "high horse" mentality on here.
Put it this way. Toronto has won 1 DIVISION title since expansion. That's a lot of piss-poor hockey. Remember, the pre-expansion NHL was less competitive than the CFL (9 teams) and the National Lacrosse League (9 teams). Huge accomplishment winning a Cup in a 6 team-league...
We're here talking about how divisional titles are meaningless (Canucks just won 5 in a row), and President's trophies are overrated (back to back)... the last meaningful awards the leaves won were the Selke (Gilmour) and Adams (Burns) in 1993. Imagine if we were still thinking about Bure's Calder.
The fact that Leaf fans are gloating about simply getting into the playoffs is a testament to how poor of a franchise they've been. When the Canucks lose in round 1, coaches get fired. When the leaves make the playoffs, thousands turn up in the streets to celebrate.
The Canucks might need to do a rebuild, they might need a re-tool, but they certainly don't need to take any lessons from the Maple leaves on how to build a good hockey team.
Oh yeah...
