If you are not in the AHL by 21ish you will not make the NHL as any sort of impact player.

Of course there are exceptions but I would say majority never make the NHL unless they quit school early.
Drafting anyone is "mostly a waste of a draft pick."

Picking a kid heading to the NCAA in no way precludes that player from turning pro if they are good enough for the NHL like say Ryan Kesler or Chris Higgins did.. even if they are not that good that early they can still pan out a la Kevin Bieksa or Jason Garrison.

Hell if you're picking late in the draft and taking a young player who is years away from being an effective pro (like most of them) it may be better taking a kid you don't have to sign for four years than it is taking a player you lose if you don't sign them within two..

I just don't think they develop the appropriate skills playing 42 games in the University level. I know that the skill has increased I just think that when they get to the AHL they may have lost a step or 2 from when they were 18 and still in juniors.

Again not all.

AHL

Utica 4 Rockford 5 (OT)
Eriksson 32 saves on 37 shots

Archibald, (10) (DeFazio, Mullen)
Jensen, (9) (Tommernes, Welsh)
Jensen, (10) (Tommernes, Mullen)
Jensen, (11) (Pelletier, Grenier) (PP)

With less than 4 minutes left the refs give Rockford their 7th powerplay on a "faceoff violation". Rockford scores to tie the game at 4 (2 for 7), and go on to win in OT - anyway, at least Jensen broke out with a hat trick! He now has 10 goals in his last 15 games...

Nicklas Jensen
First 26 games:
GP 26 G 1 A 3 P 4 -5 SOG 52 (2.0 shots per game, 1.9% shooting percentage)
Last 15 games:
GP 15 G 10 A 1 P 11 +3 SOG 54 (3.6 shots per game, 18.5% shooting percentage)

ECHL

Kalamazoo 2 Fort Wayne 5
Myron 0 points, -2

OHL

Sarnia 2 Kingston 4
McEneny 0 points, even (selected 3rd star)

North Bay 5 Windsor 6
Liberati 0 points, even

Plymouth 4 London 5
Horvat 1 assist, -1

Peterborough 0 Oshawa 4
Cassels 2 assists, +2

Some positive news for prospects for a change. Jensen hat trick, first NCAA d-man to hit 10 goals (Hutton), and leading OHL goal scorer by mile (Fox).

Sacha Guimond had 3A & was +3 in his last two games with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL. He seems to be hitting his stride since being traded to a better team (from a crappy one).

After being named the ECHL 2012/13 defenseman of the year, his numbers dropped when his former team (Gwinnett) turned crappy for the 2013/14 season.
Less Canucks embarrassment please.

Horvat back on top of his game
Last year, I might’ve been a little ahead in the goals department but I played in 67 games (in 2012-13). I’ve (surpassed my) point total from last year and I’ve only played (43) games. My offence has been better than last year.
Less Canucks embarrassment please.
