Team Canada Sochi
The full roster:
Goalies: Roberto Luongo; Carey Price; Mike Smith
Defencemen: Jay Bouwmeester; Drew Doughty; Dan Hamhuis; Duncan Keith; Alex Pietrangelo; P.K. Subban; Marc-Edouard Vlasic; Shea Weber
Forwards: Jamie Benn; Patrice Bergeron; Jeff Carter; Sidney Crosby; Matt Duchene; Ryan Getzlaf; Chris Kunitz; Patrick Marleau; Rick Nash; Corey Perry; Patrick Sharp; Steven Stamkos; John Tavares; Jonathan Toews
Let the debate begin.
Pretty obvious that Team a Canada went, where possible with pairings. I have no problem with the goalies or the defence.
Up front I would have liked to see St.Louis or Giroux but Kunitz has chemistry with Crosby. If Stamkos can't make it we may see St. Louis added. Nash and to a lesser extent Marleau are head scratchers for me.

Meanwhile
Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks are proud to announce that eight members of the organization will represent their nation at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Goaltender Roberto Luongo and defenceman Dan Hamhuis will represent Team Canada; prospect forward Ronalds Kenins will represent Latvia; forwards Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin will join defenceman Alex Edler on Team Sweden; defenceman Yannick Weber will dress for Team Switzerland; and centre Ryan Kesler will represent Team USA.
WTF, no Booth on Team USA?!?!

Cowpoke is upset with:
1) no Gio
2) Hamhuis and no Gio
3) J'Bo and no Gio
4) Iginal not considered even though he has slowed down he should have been mentioned as a bubble player (?????)
They are happy no Hall, or other Oiler. No Dianna.
Their responses are typically homer comments.

I wanted Giroux too. I think it is a mistake to leave him off. I get Carter for his PK ability and his aggressive fore check. Nash concerns me as does Marleau, both getting up there. Glad no Thornton, I hate that guy. Overall I like the team.Strangelove wrote:I want Giroux on that roster!

I expect Hamhuis will be a spare part but who knows.

Not going to venture over but how was their response to no Hudler but Nedved gets the call!Hockey Widow wrote:Cowpoke is upset with:

Kunitz its obvious as to why he was chosen, he damn well better play great with Crosby and not let the entire country of Canada down..Hockey Widow wrote:Up front I would have liked to see St.Louis or Giroux but Kunitz has chemistry with Crosby. Nash/Marleau are the old school way of thought imo, big guys who can score and are somewhat fast, I really hope they help out with some timely goals, as this team will be playing vs some really proud and cohesive teams that are stingy with the puck/trap and play dirty in the international arena, which is probably why most of our players are fairly big and can handle their own.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: Team Canada Sochi
Really not worried about this at all. It's a calculated risk, if Kunitz doesn't work out there's 12 other elite or near elite forwards we can try in his spot and he watches the best tourney in the world from the press box.SKYO wrote: Kunitz its obvious as to why he was chosen, he damn well better play great with Crosby and not let the entire country of Canada down..
Canada should really get through the round robin portion fairly easily looking at their group.

Re: Team Canada Sochi
3 ex-Kelowna Rockets on Canadian team. Benn, Weber and Keith. I dont think any other junior organization can match that.

Hmmm, doubt all you'd like but the London Knights can boast a similar representation.
Tavares, Perry, Nash for Canada and Kane for the States.
And upon further examination Ryan Gardner is playing for the Swiss.

I would luv Diane on our Nuckleads. On Team Canada? Not so much. Personally, I'm more interested in Sloppy Thirds.
