I'm laughing hard at all the folks who feign indignation at the Bruin's players, staff and fans reaction while steadfastly they defended Todd Bertuzzi.
Bunch of chumps.

No defending here. No sympathy for Moore, either, but Bertuzzi got what he deserved and may still get more in court.Topper wrote:I'm laughing hard at all the folks who feign indignation at the Bruin's players, staff and fans reaction while steadfastly they defended Todd Bertuzzi.

Thing is, unlike Bertuzzi, I will be surprised if Thornton gets more than 10 games for something in the same ballpark as Bertuzzi's offence. This is Boston, after all.

Blues re-sign Alex Steen to 3 yrs X $5.8m = $17.4M.

Took a bit of a paycut to stay with the Blues.Strangelove wrote:Blues re-sign Alex Steen to 3 yrs X $5.8m = $17.4M.
I thought for sure he was going to go for the big bucks this offseason.
Hopefully Santo's re-signs in January!
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I thought Steen would get a little less on a longer contract.SKYO wrote:Took a bit of a paycut to stay with the Blues.Strangelove wrote:Blues re-sign Alex Steen to 3 yrs X $5.8m = $17.4M.

Seems fair enough I suppose.

The last 4 years prior to this season, Steen's scored at a 25 goal / 56 point pace. That's pushing $5M on it's own when you consider he's excellent defensively.Strangelove wrote:I thought Steen would get a little less on a longer contract.SKYO wrote:Took a bit of a paycut to stay with the Blues.Strangelove wrote:Blues re-sign Alex Steen to 3 yrs X $5.8m = $17.4M.

So....really St. Louis is gambling $800K/ year that the scoring exploits of this year are not a total fluke.
If he regresses, it's only 3 years on a guy who isn't even 30 yet
So, to me I think it's a pretty good signing....with upside of being an excellent signing.

It doesn't take a seventh man to see how that would go wrong.

Edmonton trades Omark to Buffalo for a draft pick.
Conditional sixth round, if I heard right. That's pretty cheap.
He lead the Swiss league in scoring last year and now is in 4th place in the AHL with 29 points in 29 games, so it's not like he can't play hockey. Never really got a fair chance in Edmonton.

Small, slow, can't (won't) play defense, has cleared waivers in the past.. frankly I'm a little surprised he returned anything - although if he can't crack the Sabres lineup, he probably won't return anything.

One of their other guys meeting that description was injured last night and may be out for a bit. Timing is impeccable.dbr wrote:Small, slow, can't (won't) play defense, has cleared waivers in the past.. frankly I'm a little surprised he returned anything - although if he can't crack the Sabres lineup, he probably won't return anything.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
I don't think anyone on this group would not have supported Bert getting 20 games. But, the league basically threw him under the bus, by giving him the longest suspension in history. And they let the media blow what was a big deal into a "story of the century". If Orpik had a chipped vertebrate, would Thornton have been suspended the rest of this year, and all of next year too??Topper wrote:I'm laughing hard at all the folks who feign indignation at the Bruin's players, staff and fans reaction while steadfastly they defended Todd Bertuzzi.

Yep. And someone will be dumb enough to offer him $4-$4.5M after this season. Hopefully it's Toronto.RoyalDude wrote:Nice article on Mason Raymond, seems to be slaying it in TeeOh http://www.tsn.ca/toronto/blogs/jonas_siegel/?id=439526

Well when u have GMs willing to take on long term contracts at 4.2 million per in David Booth nothing surprises me, that being said we all know that MayRay's next contract will not come anywhere close to $4.5 million per. If he continues with his good play he will get somewhere around $2.5 million to $3 million perIsland Nucklehead wrote:Yep. And someone will be dumb enough to offer him $4-$4.5M after this season. If only David booth had MayRays skill set, on ice vision, phone booth stick handling, speed with the puck. Great passing, cycling, turn on a dime stick handling we'd have a player.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Surprised BigTuna hasn't been in here posting this... but the leaves sign Phaneuf for 7 years and $49M. The Laufs didn't have much choice, couldn't let him go for nothing, and selling him at the deadline wouldn't play well with the faithful... but damn, that seems like a lot for Phaneuf. He becomes the 5th highest cap-hit for d-men next season.
