NFL Thread: Thoughts on the game south of the 49th

(or a Colts/Pats from the 00's). Peter Carol is an amazing coach as well.

Until they have to start paying Russell Wilson a real salary (one more year at $300K) and it's cap implications.

They'll definitely create room for him.

I can't see them not keeping him.

Wilson is their franchise guy.

You have to keep Wilson, Lynch, Tate, and a few key guys on their Offensive and Defensive line.

Sidney Rice will probably be moved to create some cap space.

If Wilson continues with his current play, then yes you pay him.

Harvin's deal makes Rice expendable, especially the way Kearse, Tate and impressively Baldwin have played. Lynch, I wasn't keen on his current deal. RB, significantly bruising ones like Lynch typically don't have a long shelf life. Turbin has regressed from an impressive season last year at #2. I had big hopes for Christian Micheal but only saw him late in the Viking blowout. There was mention of his weakness as a receiving back.

A bigger cap concern is on defence. How much are Wright and Wagner going to get?

In a weird sort of way, I'm glad that the Seahawks lost to the 49'ers this past weekend in the manner that they did.

The loss should keep the Seahawks grounded and levelheaded, but also very optimistic that they are "right there" and so close to achieving immortality.

I almost felt (feel) that by going 15-1 or even 14-2 for the season, an unnecessary tension might have been created (I.e. Pressure of not choking).

KJ Wright's broken foot is very worrisome and probably was a huge factor is Gore's run to seal the win.

Agreed.

I wonder how long he'll be out for?........and if he's out for an extended period of time, if the Seahawks can find a way to adjust accordingly.

P.s. Speaking of Gore, he might end up being the Roberto Luongo of the NFL if he isn't careful. He quoted to the media that he think the 49'ers are still the top dogs in the division. Comments like that can bite someone in the ass big time. Beating the Hawks on the road is one thing.........attempting to beat the Hawks in Seattle is an entirely different animal. Give how the 49'ers have fared there in their past two attempts, they should know that better than anyone.

I hope it's Seattle vs. New England in the Super Bowl.

Giants got smoked.

Seahawks can definitely play at Met Life.

Should bode well in about 7 weeks or so?

Giant's offence got smoked by the Seattle defence. On offence, Seattle did little more than what was necessary and made some very strange play calls. WTF was that call for a duck down the sidelines for the INT? Why so much passing on 1st down when the run game was getting 4-6 yards early on. Not a lot of success getting into the end zone.

Giants D tried, with a fair bit of success. keeping Wilson from rolling to his right and manage quite a a bit of pressure on him. The most since the O-line got healthy. Way too many procedure calls.

Appeared to be using NY as a pre season foe and just throwing different shit out there to what would stick.

Please tell me I wasn't the only one laughing when Seattle appealed the ruled catch, and won their appeal, when Cruz was knocked senseless.

Maxwell and Lake continue to impress and what was Eli thinking repeatedly challenging Sherman?

Seahawks clinch the NFC and homefield advantage.

Although their win against the Rams was in convincing fashion, I'm a bit concerned that the Hawks aren't playing up to their full potential.

They aren't playing at the level that they were at when the smoked the Saints about a month ago.

Their defense is still quite solid, but their penalty trouble is a little worrying. Their offense doesn't seem to be as deadly as either. As was the case with the Canucks in 2012 and 2013, I'm starting to wonder if opposing teams have figured out the Hawks' offense.

In any case, I do think the Hawks will be ready in a few weeks. Won't be easy going up against Green Bay, San Fran, or even the Saints again, but I think (hope?) the Hawks will answer the bell.

Wilson is playing small. When was the last time he completed a <10 yard pass over the middle? Crossing patterns to wide outs and tight ends are no more. Is his height being thrown at him by defenders rushing up the middle with a linebacker stay back as a spy for Wilson keeping and running on the read option?

Good news is Harvin was catching for Wilson on Monday and will be at practice on Thursday. If he plays, it really opens up opposing defences.

Just got back from NO to watch the Saints dismantle Tampa Bay. Too bad the dirty birds couldn't do us any favours and take out Carolina. Winning the division and getting a home playoff game would have certainly been the preferable route to what we have now, but the good news is that if the Saints beat Philly, their next game will be in Seattle next weekend. Fingers are crossed.
