Nice shift by Kassian leading to his goal.

Then those fuckers tie it up before I can press submit..... :?

Watching this game so far, one thought comes to mind:

Are the Canucks playoff scoring woes greatly exaggerated?

In our last 3 playoff series, we've played teams (Boston/LA/San Jose) that play a very similar style game (I.e. 1-3-1 neutral zone, 3-2 forecheck, collapsing on defense). On top of that, all 3 of these teams are big and fast.

Perhaps it's just the style of play we have a problem with.

I mean think about it: We beat a bigger and slower San Jose in 2011.......a team that didnt play nearly as tightly defensively, and then we all saw what happened last year when we faced an altered San Jose team.

You look at how we've performed against other elite teams over these past few years (I.e. Chicago) and scoring simply hasn't been an issue.

However - taking all of this into account, perhaps all of this is a moot point. If the Canucks make the playoffs this year, we're going to have to go through one of LA or San Jose if we are to be successful.

I'm wondering if there's anything the Canucks can do to be more successful against that style of play?

Really nice work by the 3rd line and great to see Kassian rewarded.

Ah fuck, Pittsburge tied it up.

On a side note, I'm really liking Stanton's steadiness and stability on defence

Lol @ Garret going on and on about Luongo's flick of the wrist on the penalty shot.

So, it's penalty shots then.

Same crappy results with the skills competition.

Ones of those games that should have ended in a tie.

Arggh - that ill-advised Edler pinch right after Kassian's goal was not needed - jeez, 7 minutes to go and you take the lead in the Penguins building... probably time to be a bit more conservative.

Anyway, Luongo stops the potential winning goal on the penalty shot, and at least the Canucks get a point.

When people talk about how much the Sedins should be paid, don't forget to take into account the shootout... Pittsburgh rolls out two Art Ross winners who can get them points in the shootout, and the Canucks have two Art Ross winners who sit on the bench and cheer.

It was Hamhuis with the bad pinch.

All in all, a fantastic game by the Canucks who were very unlucky to not get the W. The Pens were outplayed in every facet of the game, except for a handful of sloppy defensive plays which led to the goals.

Too bad that Higgins goal got waved off.

Schroeder injured again is not good news.

The best looking effort of the season. For the first time, the Canucks looked in sync the entire game.

The addition of Santorelli, Stanton, & Richardson (+ healthy players) helped us look the deepest in years.

Kassian looked good again, but needs to stop taking those stupid cheap shots. He's no good to us suspended.

Luongo was solid.

On to Columbus...
Less Canucks embarrassment please.

Columbus is next. Hope someone pummels Nathan Horton with a vicious head shot but it probably won't happen.

Agreed that the Canucks looked pretty good today.

Gillis does deserve some praise so far for adding Santorelli, Stanton, and Richardson.

I await RoyalDude to pump Gillis' tires for these moves. :P

Well the Canucks put up a solid effort vs a Cup contending team and got a point! No way in hell we were going to win that shootout.

Great game all around imo.

Nice to see Kass get that, hope it helps him get going!

Booth should give $2.5M of his salary to charity.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Nah, it was Edler - watch the replay.

Anyway, I agree that the Canucks played well - it was a game of bounces for sure. I just didn't like that after playing a 1-2-2 for most of the third that Edler would decide that right after taking the 3-2 lead THAT was the time to gamble.

Edler continues work in mysterious ways.

He has a coach that wants players to err on the side of being too aggressive, but Torts may want to have a chat with Edler about some of the fine points.

I remember a lot of posters on here being pissed at the team for sitting on leads under AV. I like the idea of the boys trying to step on their neck instead of getting complacent. It was a good rush and Lu didn't track the rebound.
