Injury thread

The Vancouver Canucks will be without forward Alexandre Burrows for a couple of weeks according to head coach John Tortorella.

The coach would not get into specifics about the injury to Burrows, but it is believed to be a foot injury picked up blocking a shot in the season opening, 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
And so it begins...

While I can't say I'm optimistic about this year, cause I'm not, I don't have an issue with the shotblocking. Up to that 5 on 3 kill the Canucks had some energy and aggressiveness to them, and I liked seeing Burrows give it up like that. Yes, he got injured, but we've had bad injuries in past years (Kesler, Maholtra, Booth etc) under a low-shot blocking regime. But what have we complained about in the past, not enough heart and go for it grit. If they can play up to that level I saw against SJS - if they can get that consistency Torts seeks - than you deal with injuries. I'm not so sure this lineup can, but we'll see...sucks about Burrows, but I do like that attitude.

I guess that's what happens when small ish players are asked to block shots. I hope he's not worn down for the playoffs.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Yeah injuries have been this teams undoing/achilles heel starting from the 2011 Cup run.

If Torts wants to implement the shot block a lot, MG should go out and trade for a player who has mastered this art.

JS back at full practice and could be ready to go in a game or two. At least he should get in during this road trip which is good news. I had high expectations for him this year and would love to see him with Booth and Kassian. Kassian because they have played well together in Chicago and Booth because of his speed and ability to go to the net.

All we need now is Burrows back and no more injuries!

Hamhuis feeling good, still a sore groin although not believed to be a major worry. He is struggling learning the new system especially since he is not operating at 100%. A work in progress getting the system down and it seems of all the D men he is struggling the most.
The only HW the Canucks need

Some of us had suspected (or hoped) Hamhuis' play of late, was due to injury.
Less Canucks embarrassment please.

I have a sneaky suspicion (and hope) that the Dude is nursing an injured brain.

Wingers generally block more shots than centers due to positioning. Wouldn't read too much into that.

But in the re-sign the Sedins thread poster Rumsfeld announces that Daniel is useless and being carried by his brother. Henrik can't even condescend to get down and block a shot ?

It's actually the other way around.

The majority of the top shot blockers are generally centres not wingers.

And there's not really much to read into. Point was that there was a lot of talk and concern about the Sedin's having to block a bunch of shots this year, and at this point they have only recorded a total of 3...combined.

Who really cares of their total? On the PK it's more important that they take away scoring chances and even create a few SH chances.
I love every move Jim Benning makes 8-)

Nobody cares about their total. Particularly not the people who have been beating the "shot blocking, what about the injuries?!" drum since Tortorella was introduced as head coach.

I think the point is that for all that hand wringing their blocked shots totals are more or less the same as always.

Right now they're on pace to combine for 30 in 82 games, last year their pace was 27, the year before they combined for 32 (and Daniel missed 10 games), year before that 33.
