Kudos to the Preds. Something this cheesy probably wouldn't fly in a Canadian market except Calgary (red) and TO (blue and white) but is great for promoting Team Mean Mr Mustard.

"The rate of concussions suffered by National Hockey League players did not go down after the league introduced a rule against hits to the head, researchers have found.
Cusimano fears that inaction is harming the 'great sport.'
He suggested changes such as"
"A ban on fighting."
DA FOCK?!!!
*punches Cusimano in the head*
"Harsher penalties for those teams and players who inflict concussions."
Ummm how about a little... consistency?
"Altering equipment."
The Great Strangelove has been agreeing with Donald S, Cherry on cushioning shoulder/elbow pads for decades.
"Changes to ice size"
Alright, the guy's a commie, LET'S GET HIM!!!

Get rid of the body armour weapons that are used for elbow and shoulder pads and replace them with something protective and more akin to the pads my wife uses periodically.
Enforce the existing rules and take injury out of the equation why assessing supplementary discipline.

Seeing as concussions are the result of the secondary impact I don't see how a little bit of cushioning changes things. It's not the surface so much as the laws of physics. Concussions were just as plentiful in the past, they just weren't as recognized and often misdiagnosed. There has probably been an increase in their frequency as fitness and training has ramped up resulting in faster and stronger players. I suppose altering the equipment to provide less protection to the hitter might make the players themselves more accountable in this area.Strangelove wrote: "Altering equipment."

So if they are proposing rule changes, maybe starting with altering the rules of physics would be the place to look......

Approximately HALF of NHL concussions are estimated to be the result of secondary impact there Physics Boy.Meds wrote: Seeing as concussions are the result of the secondary impact I don't see how a little bit of cushioning changes things.

Anywho, call me old-fashioned, but I say bring fighting back in vogue and watch the number of concussions drop.

I thought the goal was to get something less likely to draw blood?Topper wrote:Get rid of the body armour weapons that are used for elbow and shoulder pads and replace them with something protective and more akin to the pads my wife uses periodically.

A $5.75m cap hit per year for a 0.61 ppg player.TEAM Radio @TEAM1040
LA Kings have re-signed Dustin Brown 8-yr, 46 million
641GP 181G 207A -24 452PIM
Comparable players on the Canucks roster:
Kesler, $5m, 0.61 ppg
Booth, $4.25m, 0.53 ppg
Burrows, $4.5m, 0.52 ppg
If Booth can stay healthy, he is not as bad as people think he is...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
He's also their captain and that will mean a few more $$$ - and he's been top 10 in the league for hits the past 5 years.

Also, one of the most hated players in the league... famous for "hit and turtle"Cornuck wrote:He's also their captain and that will mean a few more $$$ - and he's been top 10 in the league for hits the past 5 years.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Booth isn't scoring at anywhere near that pace anymore and possesses virtually none of the intangibles to his game that Brown does. If you take away his one good season in Florida his numbers look a lot shittier.
That said he's worthnothing right now and I have hopes he'll come to camp healthy and have a strong season. Where to play him though? He and Kesler have been terrible together and he's not exactly checking line material.

I'm pretty sure Torts has him playing in the press box. It's make it or break it time.Rumsfeld wrote:Where to play him though? He and Kesler have been terrible together and he's not exactly checking line material.

Yup. Most teams use water to make ice, but these guys seem to be "marking their territory".5thhorseman wrote:Beware of the yellow snow!
