What the hell? We got as much chance at a cup as them pukes down in LA and that chokefest in Pitts. Iginla should jump at the chance to don the blue green white and silver...

Is there still silver in the logo?

Pittsburgh has major D and goalie issues, they aren't all that close to the cup without fixing them. They'll also have to cut some salary given the contracts they just handed out.

LA would be a good fit for Iggy.

I still think he would be a great signing in Van, would bring instant respect and 20 goals on the wing. He could show
Kassian what it takes, and is still tough as nails. Keep in mind he was on pace for 60 points last year and had 12 points in 15 playoff games. He's still got lots in the tank.

Now about that cap space.......

and they can pull #12 from the rafters for him.

Iggie hits the ice in Vintage Blue and Green to a Saddle dome full of the Calgary faithful in their Canuck Iggie jerseys. unfortunately the video tribute is washed out.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Sorta to match some of the fan's own hatred...

How do you people live with yourselves? Christ.
The Flames are at the beginning of a re-build. It's not going to happen over night. They will be at the bottom of the league in the standings for at least a few years, if not more. I am resigned to the fact that they will suck for a long time. I don't expect a lot from the Flames. I just want them to re-build through the draft. I can live with that 8-)
It's the signing of Canuck retreads (considering how much they're hated) that's a bit laughable. I thought the Flames would have learned after Bertuzzi.

Then again, we're in the same thread talking about Iggy, so maybe I'll zip it.

After the comments he made on the way out, I'm not sure he's going to be a good fit anywhere in the NHL. Talk about burning your bridges.

Bertuzzi and Iginla are not really comparable. Bertuzzi never carried his team, he shared the load with Naslund, and once they were separated neither of them were ever the same. Jarome carried his team for years. Signing a back trouble laden, post Moore incident, Bertuzzi, and Mason Raymond, is hardly the same as thinking about the possibility of signing Iggy.

I don't know about that. He's got a point. Grabovski is NOT a 4th line center. No way, no how. He's not a 3rd line center if that line is supposed to be a checking line. It's not the first time there have been rumblings about Carlyle not being a "players kind of guy" coach. If he wasn't happy with Grabovski's play and he didn't ever talk to the guy about it, then benching him is pretty useless, from what I understand Grabovski got the silent treatment from Carlyle.

It's also no secret that when a Russian hockey player goes off and talks to the media when he's in an emotional state it gets ugly.....and the only thing that rivals a disaster like that is am Italian French-Canadian. :P

Russian players who seem to lose their shit in the press are often painted with an even stickier brush than other players because they don't articulate very well in English. They are also hockey players and the first words they learn when they get here are: Fuck(ing), Skate, Motherfucker, Shit, Bitch, and Ass. They hear words like, pussy, hit, and defense, a lot too, but they never figure them out. :P

A long-shot.....

Iginla. Definitely a guy that Gillis should target. The current core of this team isn't getting any younger, hiring Tortorella is a bit of a Hail Mary pass in hopes that this group can get it done with a few tweaks and some stiffer mental, and physical, play. Adding Iginla is something a team that is in "win it now" mode goes out and does. He brings playoff experience, grit, leadership, and scoring touch. He also fits in very nicely with Tortorella's philosophy that if you're a good loser, you're a loser.

So here's the really wacko part.

Gillis trades Edler for a 1st in 2014 and maybe a prospect or a bottom 6 forward or 6/7 defenseman. If he has to take on some salary then keep it under $2M. That frees up at least an additional $3M. Now he has $10.5M to work with. Ideally he takes back no salary and has $12.5M to work with.

Trade Higgins for a pick or something. There's another $2.5M.

Up to $15M in cap space.

Tanev gets $2.75M. I'd like to say less, but face it, he hired an agent and Gillis wants term, so they'll put the screws to each other and Gillis will give up a bit of term and Tanev will give up a bit of money. Rumors are floating out there that he could fetch upwards of $3M on the open market.

Talk to Komisarek and see how much he's looking for. He's getting paid by Toronto and might come cheap. He's your 6th man on the right side.

Talk to Andrew Ference and Marc-Andre Bergeron. The former gives you a big minute eating guy with buckets of playoff experience, he's not big but he is fearless and is a great competitor. Bergeron gives you a PP specialist who can move the puck. Partnering him with a big body to clear the front of the net can offset his small size somewhat.

Sedin - Sedin - Iginla
Burrows - Kes - Hansen
Booth - Schroeder - Kassian
Sestito - Lain - Weise

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Garrison - Tanev
Bergeron - Komisarek

Luongo
Backup

That doesn't include Grabovski because $3M for him puts this team over the cap unless Komisarek comes for less than $2M, which he won't. And Schroeder might be able to take another step with wingers like Kassian and Booth creating space.

Trading Edler to make room for Iggy? Don;t think so. You trade Edler for two pieces that fill holes, help us now and in the future. Like Luke Schenn and Coutierierieirierieirr
The only HW the Canucks need

How about Lars Eller, Jarred Tinordi and a 1st?

I said Tinordi as we know MG was probably going to draft him, but he got snagged by Montreal.
Tinordi is a big beast dman, got a full season in the AHL and 9 games with the Habs, he should get more games in next season.
Or of course they have the almost rookie of the year in Gallagher albeit he's pretty small, but plays with a St. Louis type heart.

Lars Eller is a 6'2", 209 lbs. 24yr old center with a $1.325M per contract who will be a RFA after next season.
Solid two-way center who can play 3rd and 2nd line center duties in case RK gets injured.

"A good skater, he doesn't mind playing in high-traffic areas and also displays sound defensive acumen and penalty-killing prowess. Has playmaking skills and creativity, some finish and the versatility to play either center or wing."

And more importantly this free's up some cap space!

Well I'm thinking that the return on Edler helps us in the future, a 1st plus prospects.

Iginla helps us now.

But I still like your idea better than mine. I wonder if Holmgren will too.....

Forget Iginla, he is too slow even for the Sedins. If Crosby and Malkin can't get him scoring I don't think the Sedins will either.

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Booth - Kesler -Burrows
Higgins - Gaunce - Hansen
Hendricks - Lain - Weise
Sestito

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Garrison - Tanev
Edler - Corrado
Blum

Luongo
Lack

LEAVE Kassian with the Sedins. He plays a more inspired brand of hockey with those two and he will take care of them

Burrows and Kesler had great chemistry a few years back. Let's see if they can't rekindle the magic. Maybe Booth is the guy we need but so far he hasn't been in the line up long enough to find out.

Higgins and Hansen are two heads up players who hustle all of the time. Who better to bring in and train Gaunce.

Hendricks and Weise are scrappy grinders and Lain is supposed to be a tough banger who can handle faceoffs. They can all skate so let's see if they can create an atmosphere of worry when they bear down on the D.

I liked AA and would resign him if he was willing to play the 7th spot again. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to want to be stuck that far down the list so Blum seems to be an interesting option.

Grabovski's not Russian.

If he's willing to take below market value and isn't demanding a long term deal I'd go all out to sign him. This team badly needs another effective centre and he might be the best on available in terms of playing a solid two-way game without necessarily lacking scoring ability.

He'd be a perfect Kesler replacement and could line up with a couple of solid wingers (say Higgins and Hansen) and do well with tough minutes.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but I'll be a lot more optimistic about this season if the Canucks can pick up a forward of his calibre - I'd much rather that come September, the hot topic on this god damned hockey talk message board is "how are we going to fit under the cap" than "how are we going to fill out the lineup"..

I'm a little surprised I'd forgotten about him, since he's been talked about in fantasy Canucks trades for years, but how about Brenden Morrow as your 3rd line winger?

Looking back on that 2010-11 third line, which was assembled through free agency, they had 3 guys that were defensively responsible and all parts that could move up and down the line-up. Morrow can definitely do that, and put up 30-45 points depending on PP time, which is exactly what you want from your third line.
