I think, if given the choice, I'd rather have Letang at 7 then Edler at 5...BladesofSteel wrote:Letang would be an ideal replacement for Edler should Gillis opt to move him out. The fact he's only 26 is encouraging as well.

Every time I look out my window, same three dogs looking back at me.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
That's a great way to look at it - +$3million in cap space to keep him, but he is absolutely ideal to replace Edler.BladesofSteel wrote: Letang would be an ideal replacement for Edler should Gillis opt to move him out. The fact he's only 26 is encouraging as well.
Howabout throwing in Luongo for MAF buyout?
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
That would work. The Pens get an upgrade in net + a Letang replacement.ESQ wrote:That's a great way to look at it - +$3million in cap space to keep him, but he is absolutely ideal to replace Edler.BladesofSteel wrote: Letang would be an ideal replacement for Edler should Gillis opt to move him out. OT, the Sabres seem to have issues re-signing Mr. Hodgson.

Is Cody’s dad being a bit of a dink again? Now there’s a real shocker!Jovocop wrote: OT, the Sabres seem to have issues re-signing Mr. Hodgson.

Garrison / Letang
Hamhuis / Bieksa
Alberts / Corrado
Hmmm…
As far as Letang goes, for $7M I think I’d be interested. $8M is definitely pushing it.

The day Mike "Bold Moves" Gillis gets out in front of other NHL GMs and proactively makes a huge deal to improve the team before his asset gets stale and untradeable is that day I...
...Anyways, Letang is a dream that won't come true for Vancouver.

It would be sweet to see Letang in a Vancouver uni, but GM MG needs to chase this deal, which is not in his character as a tough negotiator. There are times when you need to overpay and this may be one of them.

I thought I had read somewhere that the issue was more personal than financial, thanks for the link *someone*.
Letang is the real deal and would add another dimension to our offense.
Kills penalties too.

RH shot.
Trouble on your PP? Get Letang!
If we could get him at $7mil/per on an extension....
If we could get him for Edler + Schroeder...
Well you just do it.
Bonus that he would actually come in at a lower cap-hit than Edler in this coming cap-crunch season.
No problem giving him that raise when the cap goes up in 2014-15.
My name is Strangelove and I love this trade fantasy.

You can thank hockey nerd Elliotte Friedman.

If it's an Edler for Letang swap I would try to shoehorn Luongo in there.
Take MAF back and flip him or buy him out, maybe even retain some of Luongo's contract to get another asset somehow.

And clearing that off the cap for one year would allow us to keep Ballard for one more year if we needed defensive depth. Ballard blocks shots. Torts loves shot blockers. Ballard brings depth on D for a long season. Just saying.Strangelove wrote: Definitely.

Throw in Luongo, let them buy out MAF, and get something else back.
