My favourite moment from 24/7 was Tortorella yelling at Gaborik on the bench "Are you gonna stop for one fucking puck tonight?"
All due respect to Bieksa, but he and his buddies had the opportunity to lead themselves to the promised land, time to get someone in to drag them along if need be. I like that some players are probably nervous.
Chalk me up as one of those who like's the hiring.
It's pretty much been discussed on these boards already, but the minute Kevin Bieksa said they "don't need someone to come in and crack the whip" was the minute I knew someone like Torts was necessary.
We have a 2-3 year window and Torts will get the best out of this team for the next 1-2 years and by then there will be a new crop of coaches on the market. We've already seen that there aren't a ton of options on the roster front, so one way to make a bold move and really shake things up is with a hiring like this.
I am not a fan of calling players out in public and I could careless if Brooksie, Golumsie and Sekeresie are made fools of.
The big change I see is responsibility will not be delegated to the core group of players. Each player will be held responsible. Control will be centralized.
No longer will the inmates be running the asylum. It may be run by a mad man, but it will only be run by one mad man.
Great to see Doc embracing Jack D. Ripper.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
People assume we will get the same Torts as near the end in New York. Thats not necessarily the truth. Like any coach I am sure he can adapt to different styles. Remember AV was known as a defensive coach when he got here and certainly wasnt a defensive coach the last 4-5 years.
Time will tell. Interesting to see the media's spin. They cant be happy and will unfortunately let that cloud their opinion. There is more to a coach then how he deals with the media.

AV was sat down by Gillis and explained that the new owner had a mandate for exciting hockey.
I have it confirmed by two friends that the Canucks have indeed made an offer which has been accepted in principle. A few smaller details to work but. Bottom line, Torts is now our new coach.
Not surprised to hear some of the players were hoping for him, that is consistent with what I was told back in May. I just could never really get my head around the idea that the rumours I heard had truth to them.
