Surely Mr. Aqualini has placed many of his assets far the reach of his wife's divorce counsel. I would guess that a man like that would have his assets in shares, corporations and with other members of the family (perhaps in complex trusts or co-ownership arrangements). Then again, who knows.

I hope that SL and HW are correct, when they suggest that FA will (1) readily buy-out bad contracts and/or (2) bring quality players in along with a bad contract (for the purpose of buying them out). I just can't see FA going out of his way to buy the Canucks out of their problems.

If this ownership/management group has been anything, it is patient, measured and arrogant. Do we really think they will say one thing to the media and do another? I hope so, yes. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Frankly, my faith in this management core to turn the team around quickly has gotten weaker and weaker with each passing hockey-related transaction. I hope you're right SL.

How about the party that signed the contract. It would be silly for it to be anyone else.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

This off-season and next.

"In 2013, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends and concludes on July 4 at 5 p.m."

It will be a similar time frame in 2014.

You haven't been paying attention.

Aquaman has always looked for ways to spend million$ over the cap.

It pays off for him financially in the long run.

You haven't been paying attention.

Ownership/management has never been directly quoted on this matter.

Two of the three "journalists" giving "inside information" have stated Gillis has a green light on buyouts.

A coupe of things:

The amnesty buy out is a maximum of two players spread out over this year or next. So you can use both this year or none. What you don't use this year is available to use next.

As for the cap recapture question I would assume that since the contract is bought out there is no longer any worry about cap recapture moving forward. The penalty is in the buy out I would guess.

I wouldn't be so sure seeing as how it's a "CAP recapture" penalty.

It's designed to penalize teams who circumvented the cap.

But who da fock knows amirite? :mex:

It's one thing to put a few guys in on LTIR who are "injured", it is another to bring in a guy like Di Pietro and pay him millions not to show up, just to get a prospect.

I hope so though SL. I hope so.

I get your logic but I would doubt that if the contract is bought out thereby negating it moving forward there is anything left to penalize.

Yup, the rumour doesn't pass the sniff test.

And Botch and Iain Mac have both called bullshit on it.

Even if linguini is a cheap bastard he should still buy out Keith Ballard because he could probably get a better defenseman for the 1/3rd he saves on Ballards 4.25.

I read your link, I'm aware of Reinprecht and Luko, and hiding a few vets in the minors. I just think those are relatively small fish when compared to what you're proposing.

If it happens, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll even provide you with all the credit in the world. Heck, maybe I'll tweet Botch for ya.

How about being penalized for the 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 seasons?

When we paid Lou $10mil, $6.7mil, and $6.7mil... with a mere $5.3mil cap hit.

We're supposed to pay for that with a future cap penalty according to the new "Cap Recapture" clause.

PERHAPS the Compliance Buyout erases that past transgression, but personally I have my doubts.

How about the media does it job and finds out, says I.
