Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Yep rumour seems to be $5+ mil per for 4 years on a 35+ contract. Pretty dangerous signing but also tells you how terrible the UFA market is going to be. Gonchar got $5 mil per. Two guys who are pure offense and little defense getting $5 mil and more.
Man if Edler were on the UFA market he'd be getting $6+ mil. He may not have taken the strides we would like but he is better than both those guys. Not to mention much younger.

Ya suddenly our D looks to be guys on good deals. Even Ballard should be more tradable now

The only HW the Canucks need
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
I've heard a few people mention what this does for Keith Ballard's value, it may be true but to me when a panicky idiot like Holmgren takes himself out of the market for a defenseman that hurts KB4's value just as much as signing Streit to a huge contract helps it.

I don't think Holmgren's done yet with that blueline, and even if he was I believe there are teams who would take on Ballard's contract if they didn't jump at Edler. The Isles would be one spot, as would a team like Dallas or Columbus - teams with cap space who could use more puck mobility from their blueline.dbr wrote:I've heard a few people mention what this does for Keith Ballard's value, it may be true but to me when a panicky idiot like Holmgren takes himself out of the market for a defenseman that hurts KB4's value just as much as signing Streit to a huge contract helps it.

Yeah. Sorry I do think we can probably dump Keith Ballard on a team, I just don't know if we can get anything meaningful in return.

Getting cap space without using a compliance buy-out would be a meaningful return
. What a sad indictment on the state of the league where that can be a true statement.
If Gillis gets a 3rd-rounder for him, so much the better.

Heck, Ballard and a 6th just for the cap space isn't even a bad Cap Trade. Too bad it isn't a hockey trade.Lancer wrote:Getting cap space without using a compliance buy-out would be a meaningful return. What a sad indictment on the state of the league where that can be a true statement.

btw the Streit deal isn't official. The Flyers have to clear tagging room before the two sides can officially put pen to paper.

Datsyuk has signed a three year extension with Detroit.

Voynov cashes in on a great season with what looks like a good deal for both sides. Good money for Voynov and good term for Kings (25 mil over six seasons).
This kid kinda came out of nowhere.

Some tidbits..
-Brennan Klak
Per Pierre LeBrun, Flyers have informed Daniel Briere that he's been bought out. Not official until 48 hrs after cup final.
-JoshRimerHockey
Rich Winter, Ilya Bryzgalov's agent has been informed by Paul Holmgren that Bryzgalov will NOT be bought out after Cup Final! #flyers
-Tim Panaccio
2 NHL sources tell CSN Flyers & ANA talking of Bobby Ryan. Among scenarios being discussed: Coburn, 11th pick for Ryan... more later.
Looks like Philly is gonna keep Bryz!

Raffi signs with the Sharks...$6 million over 3 yrs. Good for him. Wish we had kept him...we could have used his grit in the playoffs.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Wouldn't say out of nowhere as he could have easily slipped into the first round of the 2008 draft (he was 8th on the international list for central scouting). As it stands he was taken at #32. He has steadily improved every year since coming to North America....29 pts his first AHL season, 51 his next, split time between AHL and NHL the next (20 pts in 54 games in the NHL last year as a rookie), and this year really began to establish himself as a top 4 guy. He was second in icetime behind Doughty I believe. This, i think, will prove to be a hell of a deal for the Kings as soon as next season.Rumsfeld wrote:Voynov cashes in on a great season with what looks like a good deal for both sides.
