This team needs size and meanness up front but man, it also needs some shooters.

It would be nice to have someone besides Kes on the PP who can put a wrist shot on net from outside the circle that has some tiny chance of going in the net.

One of the reasons I wanted Gillis to go after Semen when Doan was no longer an option. Say what you want about the guy, he has a laser and he uses it. Obviously wouldn't have addressed our toughness concerns but one thing at a time...

With the declining cap and roster holes to fill, I do not see the Canucks competing at a high level next season.

With that in mind, and the shake up in the roster that GMMG has promised, I would tolerate a mediocre team next season that gets to the playoffs and from their it is a crap shoot.

I have long advocated trading Burrows. I also think someone else should develop pip squeak Schroeder. Toss them in with Ballard and Luongo to sweeten the pie.

Let Frankie, Jensen and Gaunce battle for spots and hopefully earn them. Sign an aging vet centre, wing and right side D man to battle the kids for the lineup and if not, don't be afraid to jettison them. If the vets make it, they can swap in and out with the kids on a Utica shuttle. With lesser team goals ie Division Banner to Presidents Trophy, tolerate some learning mistakes and allow mentoring from the core.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Talk about bold, what yer sayin is that you want to ask em where they want to play after this season coming.
They are UFA after next season

Actually that's kind what Calgary didn't do when they should have with Iginla...

There you go Rummy we trade the Sedins this trade deadline when they are at their peak in value for us...

...fuck no way Gillis is that brave...

Two first rounders for the pair...and two roster players to fill in....
I guess it depends where they want to go.

I would tolerate mediocrity if the team was made up of 6 or 7 youngsters who are still developing and growing into pros and there is a coaching staff in place that let’s the kids play in crucial roles (i.e. not bury the kids on the 4th line every game). Actually, I could get on board with this plan quite easily, although I’d prefer we somehow get a more NHL ready young centre than Schroeder. Your idea of throwing in a Burrows and/or Schroeder to sweeten a Luongo or Ballard deal is a good one.

If we go into next season with some combination of Kassian, Tanev, Corrado, Lack, Schroeder, Gaunce, Jensen, Lain or other young additions taking a regular shift, then I would be OK with being mediocre. Heck, it might even be exciting to watch this team if we throw a bunch of kids on the team and see who sticks, but if we go into next season with another veteran laden roster, then I don’t see how being mediocre is acceptable.

And Rummy, yes, I think we try to re-sign the Sedins. We will have the cap space, they will want to be here and we will need them. There won’t be any better FAs around either. You can keep the Sedins around and have a transition plan in motion.

If they'd re-sign cheap for the second line and we have a new first line built around size and speed then sure, I guess.

I doubt they'd re-sign for that cheap and I really wonder where their game will be by then. I can't shake the feeling that these guys checked out of the NHL after the bitchslapping heartbreak of the Boston series.

Hårold and Kumår are counting their Kronas until the day they can board the good ship Powderpuff back to Sollefteåbag or wherever the fuck.

I say it depends on what they ask for.

They really want to win the cup, having already won Olympic and World Championship gold, Lord Stanley's Cup is the only important hardware they lack. If they believe it can be done in Vancouver, I'm sure they'll be willing to take a home town discount as long as the money left on the table is used to get the missing pieces for a cup run.

We can't depend on the twins to be our top line for all eternity, and most likely they are now past their peak, but if they are willing to take a pay cut and play on the best second line of the NHL, I say we go for it.

If they want the same kind of money they get now, we had better trade them.

I harken back to the days of yore when Naslund was a free agent and the entire fanbase was loathe to let him walk because he was still playing at a high level despite taking us nowhere in the playoffs (sounds kinda familiar, huh). We paid full price for him and his game fell off a cliff and we sucked ass that season.

We could have gone after Scotty Neidermayer with that money, or perhaps a foward with a functioning pair of testicles.

Just saying that in this business you gotta know when to fold 'em... knowing when to hold 'em is pretty easy.

The Sedins are classy guys who seem to have embraced their leadership roles in the NHL, unlike Markus Naslund who bolted after his big money years and never seemed to enjoy himself. I don’t think they have checked out, and I think it’s a bit of a cop out to question their desire just because they are from Sweden. The donate a huge chunk of time and money to local charities, so calling them money grubbing foreigners who can’t wait to get the hell out of here is obtuse.

I do not think we’ll have a new first line built in one year’s time. I guess we’ll see what Gillis’ vision is in a few weeks time. My ideal scenario is that we have a 1A and 1B thing going with the Sedin and Kesler lines, and a competitive third line that has a couple of young guys on it.

My fear is that the plan is to go with nearly the exact same group minus Luongo, Ballard, Raymond and Lapierre and plus a few young players (most of which were on the team to end the year anyway). I hate the idea of putting in Schroeder and maybe Gaunce up front and calling it a “retool”, “reset” or whatever. If you’re going to do a “reset”, then move somebody FFS like the hair pulling biter and get some youth back that can play in the NHL today. If you’re going to throw Gaunce on the 4th line, please don’t patronize us all and call it a “reset” because that’s just bad management.

Harrumph,
Like I said that decision will have to be made by this trade deadline because year after next they are UFA and walk for free. If we wait till 2014/15 their trade value is limited to rental status and second round picks.

You should have thought about that prior to this years draft then, because without them all we can hope for is to gun for the #1 overall draft pick.

If you let the Sedins walk, you'll probably have to wait another decade for this team to be a contender again. So unless you muchacho want this team to suck even further, you better hope MG does the right thing and re-sign the twins asap.

Without the Sedins, Ryan Kesler becomes our #1 center who is now often injured!!

Booth - Kesler - Burrows

Higgins - Schroeder - Jensen

Hansen - Lain - Kassian

Sestito - Guance - Weise

And Schroeder would then become our #1 center when RK17 gets injured again..LOL
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Rummy, I think I know what you’re getting at.

We all held onto the dream with Naslund, Bertuzzi, Jovo and co. for way too long. Thing is, the Sedins are way better players than these three ever were. The only way I see trading or not re-signing the Sedins is if we are freaking awful next year, which is doubtful. I think we’ll be an above average team again, which makes dumping our franchise’s two best all time players pretty damn unlikely.
