Hope you're right, that would be a great deal for us.

I sort of see it the same way Rummy does, the Canucks were willing to move him for two 2nds at the deadline so teams probably aren't offering a whole lot more at this point unless, like Topper says, Gillis can create some sort of bidding war with a team like the Flyers.

The ace in the hole for Gillis would be to take back a contract, say Upshall and his $3.5M contract for next two years, and buy-out that deal in order to get back something more significant in return. But if what HW and others say is right, that Aquaman isn't keen on buy-outs, then we shouldn't really expect that to happen.
What if its Matthias @ 2 year(s), $1,703,250RFA
Plus Petrovic @ 3 year(s), $2,475,000 » RFA
And upshall @ 4 year(s), $14,000,000UFA
So that's 850,000
850.000
3.500,000
5.200,000

For luongo's 5.5 cap hit that's a wash and we have three bodies...

Upshall might make a good fourth line winger ...

I don't know how he got a 14 million dollar contract though... He basically had one good year in 07 ...

Luongo is going to have much more value in the off-season than at the deadline

(unless there had happened to be a contender with a very-suspect/injured #1).

With that contract, we're not talking about a rental.

This is a marriage and marriages tend to happen in the summer. :P

Pretty sure HW and others were just running with an obscure quote + opinion of an idiot hockey writer.

It defies logic to believe that Aquaman

....with all that we know about him from past moves...

wouldn't take advantage of this glorious opportunity for a richer team to take advantage of this opportunity.

I'll bet the real story is they have no intention to waste the opportunity by buying out Ballard/Booth.

The rich teams WILL be making this kind of trade.

And your Vancouver Canucks WILL be one of them.

No need to do it in a Luongo trade though.

In my ever so humble opinion of course. :D

Yeah I see no reason why Aquilini, given his history so far, would be so adverse to buyouts.

BTW, you rat packsters have derailed the living shit out of this thread, and in so doing you've most likely soiled the britches of three or four lurkers with a combined history of 68 posts.

Hope you're happy and reported.

Um, Calgary sucks.

How does anyone complain about actual canuck hockey talk on a thread Intended for laughing at Calgary ?

It's kind of what the complainers want ain't it?

WTF, While on holidays, I come on here for my monthly dose of flat-lander, short-bus antidotes and all I get is Lou this and Gillis that.

OK, back on track:
This is the problem, what is the point in trading for a goalie like Bernier when we know we are not going to be competing for the next season or two. He gets hung out to dry on a nightly basis and thinks "I'm off" when it gets to FA time.
It would take the best GM and coach money could buy..... and a miracle..... to make Calgary competitive in the next five years let alone two.
2011..... the one that got away.

I didn't think this thread was for constructive criticism of the Calgary flames. I thought this was where we pointed out the backward inbred nature of Albertans... With a hockey perspective of course...

I got a note from a friend last night saying a young Albertan thang he's working with has the initials S. S. and has taken to initially documents for customers with what she thinks is a very cool Nordic rune script. he mentioned to her that some clients may find it offensive.

She has has no idea what he's taking about.

I wonder how Legia Warszawa will make out this season.
