Tanev's cheap and reliable and getting better... I'd be loathe to trade him right now.

I would personally escort Jordan Schroeder to the airport on the Canada Line.*

I was a proponent of Matthias and or Shore!

Matthias seems like the absolute perfect third liner, fittingly taking over Malhotra's spot.

So ummmmm Petrovic + Matthias... FOR... Luongo + Tanev + Schroeder?? :look:

I think you are pretty steep there Strangelove. Matthis did improve, but he is 25! Not a spring chicken. Petrovic's stats for his 6 games are not impressive, but not bad either for being 21, on a bad team, with crappy goaltending. I'd go Petrovic and Matthias for Lou and maybe a 2nd or 3rd right now. Now way I am giving up Tanev in this trade.

Now, sacrificing Tanev along with Ballard and Booth for a bag of pucks might be worth it for cap reasons :) But it would have to be a real bag of pucks, not the figurative bag of pucks with guaranteed contracts.

Yeah I was exaggerating to make a point.

Point being, return on a Luongo trade is a lot lower amongst Canuck fans than it was last off-season.

I'd say Petrovic + Matthias + 2nd... FOR... Luongo + Schroeder is fair.

Centres:

Sedin
Kesler
Matthias
Lain

... with Gaunce in the A.

Last year, right before the deadline, Pauser said he might "consider" a Luongo trade with New Jersey for Henrique, Clarkson and NJ's 1st round pick.

He'd CONSIDER it!!!

If you trade Corrado or especially Tanev, it's crucial we get somebody who can play on the right side now.

Both of these guys look like they are going to be cheap and affordable for a good amount of time. I'd be hesitant to trade either.

It was hella fun watching him go at it for months at HF with Leafers who were offering up Komisarek + Scrivens!

Okay... not "hella".

Okay... not "fun".

But it was.... SOMETHING!

Rumsfeld wrote:It doesn't take six years to rebuild. And Cory is just beginning his long NHL career.

But yeah, let's trade our young, affordable, athletic stud goaltender right as he's hitting his prime and keep a playoff meltdown king who wept when he found out he had to play another month here and is signed for another 11 years.

The whole discussion is moot anyway, since Cory is staying and Lou is going and that's just the way the math stacks up son.

All things need to be considered at this point. Speaking of meltdowns, Schneider vs Sharks.
Buy low, sell high. If the Sedins were younger I'd agree with you. The question is, are the Twins and Kesler a strong enough core to win it all with a couple key additions to the team? We have no significant prospects to trade for assets. We have little to no cap space but there aren't many significant UFAs this summer anyways.
I'm not down on Schneider at all, I think he's better than Lu but with that comes a far FAR better trade return. There are also questions not yet answered towards his durability and ability to handle a no.1 workload over a full 82 game season + playoffs. Thats yet to be determined. Luongo certainly can and is still a very good goaltender as he showed in the playoffs.

How many years does it take to rebuild exactly? Ask the Oilers.

Luongo will most likely be the one moved...but at some time this team has got to figure out if they are going for it now or "resetting", whatever that means (with all the no movement clauses and a shrinking cap).

You mean Roy, the Schroeder clone who replaced Schroeder but did not perform as well as Schroeder had when he was up. Whom Gillis gave up Connauton and a 2nd round pick for? Derek Roy, who had 4 goals prior to coming here and 1 goal in his last 35 playoff games.

Lets do remember that JS was injured, not benched. Lets do remember we needed another centre, badly. Lets remember that options were limited and no one saw him as the saviour but as a missing piece to try and keep us respectable. It was the price MG had to pay to try and land a proven centre. I don't remember anyone saying he was a brilliant move but certainly it was a necessary move.

But again, RD, if you were GM who would you have traded for and what would you have given up? Or alternately do you have any information to provide that shows MG missed a golden opportunity to land a better centre and for what in return?

Just curious since it seems no matter what MG does, or does not do, you will find fault.

JS = a smaller Raymond playing centre.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

MG made the trade to appease the audience and save himself from the onslaught of criticisms for not making a trade. A good GM would have sacrificed ego and reputation and not made such a trade cause they know and knew deep down that such a player like Roy wouldn't mount to a hill of beans in making a difference for this team. I would have rather Gillis made like Wilson in San Jose and trimmed the fat instead of wasting valuable assets on rental players whom everybody knew wasn't the answer to all our problems.
