yeah. no shit. we have huge cap issues, and we might end up dumping salary for nothing, buying out salary, and having some really cheap, and bad 3rd/4th liners to fill out our forwards. Gillis has a hell of a job to do this summer to get under the cap.herb wrote:
For some reason, Corrado would be the least of my worries if he is penciled in next season. This team too many other big holes.

Getting under the cap will be easy. Move Luongo and Ballard and we're under.
Fielding a substantially better team than we saw last year AND getting under the cap will be the tricky part. This is where Gillis needs to earn his pay and make his mark on this team. Staying the course is no longer an option, IMO.

You mean a new coach isn't going to suddenly transform our current roster into a legit playoff contender?herb wrote: This is where Gillis needs to earn his pay and make his mark on this team. Staying the course is no longer an option, IMO.
Well that sucks.

There are always a lot of factors at play. A bounce here or there could have dramatically changed the SJS series. Game 2 was a real back breaker. If AV could have gotten the god damn powerplay working, the result could hav been different.Rumsfeld wrote:You mean a new coach isn't going to suddenly transform our current roster into a legit playoff contender?

That being said, I like to play the balance of probabilities more than looking back at bounces that could have gone differently. I think it is more likely than not that this team needs more horsepower up front to be a legitimate frontrunner. I'm not talking about a overhaul or a complete makeover, but clearly this team is not physical enough and does not have enough scoring depth. I don't think doing the exact same thing and hoping for a different result is really all that smart.
Trade Edler for Simmonds and get a third line centre.
D Sedin Kesler Simmonds
Booth Henrik Kassian
That's a pretty interesting top 6 to me.

...but not until Edler's NTC kicks in.
2011..... the one that got away.
Re: The All Important Right Side
Well if it turns out Edler is staying, the only way I can see the defense being forced to work out some chemistry is Edler playing left side with JayG on his right. I don't see the logic in having our supposed 'best' dman AE, at least money wise, out of his natural position.Eddy Punch Clock wrote:I'll tell himRoyalDude wrote: Somebody needs to tell herb that Edler isn't getting traded.

With Hamhuis - Bieksa our 2nd pairing.
This is the easy way of sitting back and taking it easy, pure Gillis style - just sign some NTC contracts with players and make some questionable deals. <-- me being pissed and annoyed if Gillis ices the same damn team that has no chemistry, no secondary scoring, no solid top 6 defense with the right mix of left/right side dmen, that includes no pure QB dman.
Anyways I can see MG trying to deal Lu to a team and end up making a Booth or Ballard deal instead, just with all the back and forth talk between numerous GM's.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

It's more likely than not that Edler is here to stay, for sure.Eddy Punch Clock wrote:

I do find it intriguing to wonder what the return could be though.
Summer nights and all that...

Regarding Edler being traded, I thought Gillis made it pretty clear at the wrap up press conference that the team has no untouchables, so if he can put a deal together that he feels makes the team better, then Edler or any body else is gone...
Or put another way, the other 29 GM's are the ones saying Edler is untouchable because they aren't willing to offer fair value for him....
Take care...

Sorry herb. Fielding a competitive team was a basic assumption for the Canucks. We are not Toronto or Calgary, or Columbus. From that perspective, yeah, GMMG does have a hell of a job to do. Axing Lou and Ballard gets us $9.3 mil under the cap, but we have 5 forwards, Tanev and our #8 dman, to sign, and Lack gets $500k as our backup. That is a lot to do with very little. And, that does not make us better than last year.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!
Re: The All Important Right Side
Edler is still here so JayG will HAVE to play the right side with eagle and they are going to have to learn to how to play well together, as I said before.Mëds wrote: If Edler is here then chances are Alberts leaves for guaranteed playing time.
Either that or Garrison is playing the right side on the 2nd or 3rd pairing.
As Edler plays atrocious with Bieksa.
So it should be:
Edler - Garrison
Hamhuis - Bieksa
_______ - Tanev
Corrado

I've been a long time gone and I'm hoping y'all can help a brother out with some direction ... where the hell is the discussion of the Schneider trade? I found two threads that were both locked. Is it verboten here, er what?
