Re: Canucks News and Notes
lol well MG can't make huge signings and deals just yet, at least this starts the solidifying of the 4th line probs.
And news1130 just said: Canucks signed Sestito, but have not contacted agents for Lapierre, Roy, Maholtra, Weise, Raymond.
--
Except Tanev/agent may have been contacted by the team already.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Get and appreciate your point but I am saying I do not concur with the summarization.SKYO wrote: ...at least this starts the solidifying of the 4th line probs.

Tom is a bum. (imesho)
Hence 4th line issues not solidified.
We've seen the Darcy Hordichuk movie before.

Weise will likely be the only one retained out of this group...he's an RFASKYO wrote:lol well MG can't make huge signings and deals just yet, at least this starts the solidifying of the 4th line probs.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
Remember when Tom was picked up and GMMG tried to say he could play on the PK.
LOL

Hitting UFA age.herb wrote:Other than that, this looks like more of the same. It always irks me too that these marginal 4th line guys manage to get raises. Sestito was getting paid $605,000 last year and now will be getting paid $750,000. A 24% raise for what?
Re: Canucks News and Notes
I understand, but for fuck sakes what leverage does Tom Sestito have? I'm not so sure the huge offers would have come raining down on July 1st.dbr wrote:Hitting UFA age.

..he has none and he's lucky to have a job and luckier to have a one way deal.
Thank Christ we have him locked up though so the other 29 teams don't come scrambling after him looking to provide offer sheets.
God forbid.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
Does Sestito have pictures of Gillis or something?
Re: Canucks News and Notes
Has he earned that raise, not from what I could see. To me it just falls into it's pro sports, *shrug* territory.herb wrote:I understand, but for fuck sakes what leverage does Tom Sestito have? I'm not so sure the huge offers would have come raining down on July 1st.dbr wrote:Hitting UFA age.
I'm indifferent to Sestito at three quarters of a million, as long as the CBA permits us to stick his sorry ass in the minors if he doesn't carry his weight (it does) and as long as this franchise remains willing to do this with one way contracts (I see no indication that it does not), an extra what, 0.2% of the cap on Sestito's contract doesn't particularly bug me.
I guess management sees him continuing to develop into a player worth more than your average $600k waiver pickup over the next couple of years - I don't really see it but frankly I haven't been looking.

Odd signing nobody role players without a coach.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
It's 5 months until the season, as Topper says there is no coach, and GMMG feels the need to spend 3/4 of a mill from a shrinking cap on a player who will likely be around to sign later regardless.dbr wrote:

Is his mandate and responsibility not to improve via examining all avenues first.
I mean I get what you are saying, in the grand scheme it is meh I suppose but its odd moves like this that make me wonder what the fuck GMMG is up to sometimes.

He makes a mean chicken parm.
Re: Canucks News and Notes
Come on DL lighten up, Tom is still a kid at 25 years old and at 6'5", 228 lbs. he's a force on the forecheck and much tougher than that punching bag Weise.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
Maybe with a Canucks offseason training program and a new fitness savvy coach like Eakins we can see a guy like Sestito make the transition from skating in quicksand to being able to lift his knees all 5:00 minutes he plays.
Though thinking about the potential of having a 6'5" winger alongside a young 6'6" centre in Lain and on the other side a 6'3" Archibald is interesting. Tom needs a lot of work though. And we are relying on two other rookies.
But it would mean a 4th line playing for probably less than $3M.
