How does the draft work

Post by ODB »

Is it based on regular season standings or playoff elimination?

Where will the Canucks pick?
BTW, NOT A FLAME ... JUST AN OBSERVATION ... :P

well this sums it all up...most teams pick PLAYERS that are ready or close to ready for the NHL...we pick PROSPECTS that may develop into something after 4-8 years in the minors...when our PROSPECTS dont work out we trade them for washed up journeymen with huge contracts...then the traded PROSPECT goes to another team and becomes a successful PLAYER...that is Canuck drafting...

I believe draft positions are determined as such:
- The 14 teams that missed the playoffs get the first 14 picks in the draft in order from fewest points to most, subject to the results of the draft lottery.
- The Stanley Cup champion will pick 30th and the runner-up picks 29th.
- The losers of the Conference Finals pick 28th and 27th.
- The regular season division winners hold the other lowest positions (Canucks will pick in the low 20's depending on what happens in the rest of the playoffs).
- Remaining loser playoff teams draft in order of fewest points to most points from the regular season.

Winning the division really screws over our draft position by six or so spots.

Seeing as we were done in 4, I would much rather have seen this team tank the season and end up in the top 10 on draft day. Then, being in a position to deal from strength with Luongo, Edler, Higgins, Burrows, Hansen, Ballard.....he'll I'll even throw Schneider in there if coaching is changed up.....well, it's conceivable that the Canucks could shop these guys and a couple of future picks and end up with 2 or 3 picks in the top 10. He'll, if they had tanked the season, they could've dangle this year's pick and had 2 picks in the top 5.

But no, push for the post season and shit the bed.

Cue applause.

20/20 hindsight - worthy of Webster's.

Hindsight...come on now.

So, the Canucks shouldn't have traded for Roy, should've brought Corrado up earlier and should've dumped assets like Raymond at the deadline for more draft picks.

The guys play to win the games. Coaching and management try to give the players to tools necessary to win more games.

Frankly I'm just angry that the Canucks didn't draft Giroux, Stalberg, Perrault, Dorsett in 2006, Subban, Benn, Hagelin and Gunnarson in 2007, Karlsson, Stepan, Martin, Demers and Lindback in 2008.. shameful.

..I almost responded after Mëds posted but I knew my patience would be rewarded if I elected not to.

Mëds, dude, so morose, like your Goldfish died or something man.

Go plug in and bang on the axe for a bit, chill, 'salgood.

Gonna be some fun this offseason and plenty to talk about.

Maybe next year, lol...one of these times Doc guarantees a Cup he'll be right.

Third time lucky DS??

Should definitely be a lot more fun and interesting than the previous few years.

Should be at least one major trade, a change behind the bench, maybe a buyout, some interesting FAs out there and a pretty deep draft.
