Playoff Poetry

Post by spooner »

It’s time for some playoff poetry.

I’m no Don Lever. The only poetry I pay much attention to is the musical kind. I figured I’d kick it off with something based on “The Night they Drove old Dixie Down” because Levon Helm was one of the good ones. I realize that Robertson wrote the song but he didn’t die recently and it was Levon that made the song what it was anyway.

Here’s the tune for any of you that aren’t familiar with it (coincidentally, if this is the case then you should feel some shame and listen to it about 10 times in a row to make up for lost time):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VShpcqd3zE

The Year They Bring Old Stanley home

Ryan Kesler’s his name and he was the heart of his team
‘Til several injuries came and took away some of his steam
In the summer of twenty eleven, they took on the Bruins, in a game 7
By June the 15th, our team had fell
It’s a time I remember oh so well

The year they broke my fuckin heart
All the streets they were burning
The year they broke my fuckin heart
Old feelings were returning
I said “Marchand: I’ll be blunt, I’d like to kick you, right in the......vagina”

Back in the year of ’82, they didn’t have enough to win
And I remember in ’89 when Joel Otto kicked it in
Then in the summer of ‘94, they got me hooked like never before
Came back from 3-1, to beat the Flames
But against the Rags they could not do the same

The year they broke my fuckin heart
All the streets they were burning
The year they broke my fuckin heart
And the fans were left yearning
They said “booo hoo hoo hoo hoo, boo hoo hoo, hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo”

Back with my cat it’s twenty thirteen, when one day he called to me
"Spooner, quick, come see, look who’s playing goal-ie"
Now I don’t mind if the stars don’t align, and I don't mind putting my heart on the line
I still tell myself they can beat the rest
But they will have to play their very best

Naaaa na na na na na, na na na, na na na na na

Like my father before me, I will cheer for this team
And though it may be fantasy, I’ll continue to dream
That one day they’ll raise it up, beat them all and they’ll win a cup
The victory will be so sweet
‘Cause we know what it’s like to taste defeat

The year they bring ol’ Stanley home
All the bells will be ringing
The year they bring ol’ Stanley home
And we will be singing
We’ll sing “Yeaah we finally won, holy shit, what a fuckin run”

I didn't put much work into this one, didn't need to.

TOTALLY reminds me of Ryan Kesler:

I can wheel, I can wheel
I can skate, I can peel
And you can't stop me churning
Cause I'm the one, I'm the one
I can hit, I can gun
And you'll never stop me burning

COME DOWN WITH FIRE
Lift your spirit higher
Someone's screaming my name
Come and make me holy again
I'm the man on the silver mountain
I'm the man on the silver mountain

I'm the day, I'm the day
I can show you the way
And look I'm right beside you
I'm the night, I'm the night
I'm the dark and the light
With eyes that see inside you

COME DOWN WITH FIRE
Lift your spirit higher
Someones screaming my name
Come and make me holy again
I'm the man on the silver mountain
I'm the man on the silver mountain

COME DOWN WITH FIRE
Lift your spirit higher
Someones screaming my name
Come and make me holy again
I'm the man on the silver mountain
I'm the man on the silver mountain

Well I can help you, you know I can
I'm the man on the silver mountain
I'm the man on the silver mountain

Just look at me and listen
I'm the man, the man, give you my hand
I'm the man on the silver mountain

COMIN DOWN WITH FIRE
AND LIFT YOUR SPIRIT HIGHER
I'm the man on the mountain
The man on the silver mountain
I'm the night the light
The black and the white
The man on the silver mountain

RIP Jim Morrison and YOUR Vancouver Canucks!

This is the end
My on line friends
This is the end
CC brethren, the end
Of GMMG’s plans, the end
It’s AV’s final stand, the end
To none of our surprise, the end
We’ll never see this team...again

Can you picture, can you see
A Cup winning team
We are desperately in need...of some...God like hand
Fans in...never land
Lost in Canuckdom...the never ending pain
Are we, all insane
Are our, hopes inane
Waiting for the summer trades, yeah

This is the end
Our dreams oppressed, again
This is the end
Of this core group, the end
Will it hurt to, set them free
Did they, ever follow me
The end of laughter and Swedish try
The end of nights they make us die
This is the end

What a Wonderful World - LUUUUU

I see team with a dream ........ coming through
I see em win..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see jerseys of blue….. and of white
Touch of green trim….. silver so bright
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The Canucks win in seven.....so much blood .. so much guts
Euphoria in Canuckland.....with the fans ..going nuts
I hear fans raising voices…..singing.."Kiss Him Goodbye"
They're really sayin......"I hope you die"

I hear Thornton cry...... says it shouldn’t be so
He’s more of a loser.....than he'll ever know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

(instrumental break)

So much more than he knows

Yes I think to myself .......what a wonderful world.

I'm picturing AV, wandering the streets of South Van, singing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah with a dumb ass shit eating grin on his face.
