Ya well aren't we all...
My opinion is that we desperately needed an actual NHL center. Giving up the 2nd is quite a price but considering the market...Gillis didn't get fleeced. I mean 2x2nds for Murray? WTF was Shero thinking????
KC is likely never going to play a significant role in the NHL.

Roy may not have been the best option for a 2nd/3rd line centre, but he's better than what they had before behind Hank. 2nd and Connauton? Not a bad deal considering what's being thrown around these days. The other thing is depending on how he plays, if Gillis wants to re-sign Roy he gets a full first crack instead of waiting like every other schmoe come summer.
I think he may do better after this trade, as it's been reported a couple of places that he's only now starting to feel 100% healthy.

He appears to have been matched up with alot of top 2 lines/and top 2 D pairings this season with his most ice time coming against Carter/Doughty in LA and Tanguay/Wideman/Brodie in Calgary followed by Suter/Gilbert/Bouchard in Minny and Paranteau in Colorado.
Roy was playing tough minutes in Dallas and more then keeping his head above water. In fact they move Ribero and added Roy in part to free up Benn to play a more offensive role.
With a healthy line up I suspect kesler will take the toughest match up and a Roy / Hansen / ? combo will probably take the other teams second unit.

I like the trade
but doesn't 5'-9" Roy nullify 5'-9" Schroeder? Doesn't bode well for Ricky.

If JS can develop into a Roy clone then we are in good standing. If the rumours are true that Roy wants north of 5 closer to 6 as a FA then I think he will be just a rental and maybe JS can still develop into what we need. But it won't be this year.
I like the trade too as it fills an immediate need and by the sounds of things this was the player MG had been trying to get for over a month. He just had to wait until Dallas decided to be sellers.
The only HW the Canucks need

Where are these rumours coming from out of curiosity? I've read this before and wonder if it's based in fact at all

Good question. I've heard from a variety of hockey pundits but we know how accurate they can be. With the cap dropping next season he may be out of luck with those demands, if they are in fact demands.
If he has a good showing with the Canucks and likes it here who knows, maybe we get a little home town discount for him. But I want to see what he brings the rest of the year and playoffs before I make up my mind. Don't know what MG is thinking though
It would be really nice if JS could develop along the same path as Roy and reinvent himself.

Looks like a rental, but a good one under the circumstances.
Kevin Connauton is RFA next season & subject to waivers when assigned to the AHL.

He's not bigger or younger, though possibly faster.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

...and ice time....and quality of linemates.
Roy is obviously a much better player than the rookie Schroeder right now but but lets be honest he's not even close to the player he once was. Still should help our brutal PP and provide much needed depth at forward.

Roy should be a massive upgrade over Schroeder, Ebbett and Burrows...
Agree Herb but not so sure about Burrows.. Last game his line ( Higgins , Hansen, Burrows ) got the only 2 goals..
and Burrows was the top faceoff center for the Nucks.. 57% f/o is not too shabby.. Other than the fact that the Sedins need him to make their line work it is a shame to dismantle the line.. Maybe last game was a one off but it was the only effective line on the ice..

Derek played with my nephew in Rochester, when he heard of the trade he texted my nephew that he was excited to be a canuck
