They must be. Great minds tell me the true measure of management is how many young draft picks are in your lineup, not how you manage your team or how much you win.

Is it not the owner who is interfering with the team?

if I undestood it was he who dictated who they picked first overall last draft?

There is a team that could benefit from a player like Cory.

Gagner will be interesting to watch. He is RFA after the season and I think he has shown that he will be a 60-70 point guy. Do they trade him and if so do they get more prospects/picks for him, do they trade him for someone the same age(22) on defence or perhaps a goalie, or do they sign him long term ??

And I wouldnt be shocked to see Tambelini fired at the end of the year. They were supposed to be competitive this year but it hasnt happened.

Hmmm 10g + 15a = 25 points in 26 games!

Yup, the Great Strangelove should definitely replace Gillis as GM of your Vancouver Canucks:

So here's what we do: Offer-sheet Sam Gagner, 4 year deal @ $5mil per!

Yes that might be overpaying him by a mil per.

22-year-old, 6th overall in 2007, 366 NHL games already, plays centre and wing.

He fills in at centre on the second line while Kesler is out and then slides over to Kess' wing when he comes back.

He's an Einstein playmaker on the rise, the perfect guy to play with Kess and Booth.

If Edmonton doesn't match, we only give up ~30th overall + 90th overall in 2013.

If Edmonton does match, they are forced to pay Gags more than they would have liked.

They might elect not to match because they know they've got two players who might be in the $7mil range in one year.

And one or two who might be in that same range 2 years from now.

Meanwhile they'll still be paying Horcoff $5.5mil.

Wot say ye men, let's be pirates yar! Image
Mind ya... Gagner is prolly gonna demand $6mil after the way the Coil jerked him around last summer.

(eventually signed him to a one year contract - $3.2mil)

So if they matched at $5mil we woulda perhaps saved them money/cap-space in the long run.

BUT WHAT IF THEY LET US HAVE HIM??!!

Canucks would be well on their way to yet another President's Trophy is what!

RoyalDude wrote:This thread basicially points out the paranoia and realization for Canuck fans that with great young hockey players in Hall, Eberle, RNH and now seemingly Sam Gagner that the much dreaded Oilers have the potential to be real scarey once the Sedin era begins to wane and those nightmares of the beat downs that the Gretzky/Messier/Coffey/Fuhr Oilers constantly handed us for many years may reign once again if these hotshot rookies in Oil Town get a decent support group around them as they pile up the experience and chemistry and cockiness.

If this weren't the case we wouldn't be having a thread about the 'new Oilers' with this many replies in a Canuck forum. It's unprecedented. I think some of you is getting a little worried and needing a little consoling and help quashing the Oilers potential.

I've said it before, Gillis was gift wrapped a real good team right on the bubble of playoff success and regular season dominance. Gillis hasn't been truly tested as a GM in building a 'good hockey team'. Most GM's get new jobs with shitty hockey teams and have to build from scratch. When you start with a team that has the Sedins, Kesler, Luongo, Schneider, Bieksa, Edler, Hansen, Raymond, Salo, Burrows, you have landed a pretty damn good gig. We will get to see what Gillis is truly made of as soon as the Sedins game starts to show its age. If Tambellini manages to build a decent support group for the young Oiler stars and Gillis doesn't manage to counter that with eye on the next generation up behind the Sedins. We could be getting some serious beat downs for a long time from the Oilers once again.

Oh yeah, this young Oiler group may be getting a very good quality D-man in the up coming draft if they pick in the top 5 being that this is a good year for drafting D-men.

Eberle, Hall and RNH are just too good for the Oilers to be bad forever. Those three players will be finishing in the top 10 in scoring for many years. And if Gagner has truly arrived well shit, lookout. Lets just hope that Paajarvi doesn't wake up one day.
Oh yeah, here it is...

His team's management is kinda fucked up no?!
I love every move Jim Benning makes 8-)
