I guess in the 50's and 60's nobody got a stick up and pucks stayed along the ice. Good for you.Tiger wrote:hmm .. ok .. I played in the 50's and 60's when no one wore protective face gear.herb wrote:I wear a freaking cage when I play.

I think folks that wear the cheesegater are generally the most dangerous players on the ice. They're liberal with their sticks, trying to bat pucks at face height, they keep their hands/elbows high, and they're usually the ones trying to start shit in a Rec league game.herb wrote:I guess in the 50's and 60's nobody got a stick up and pucks stayed along the ice. in the 60's and 70's high sticking was a rare call because it usually resulted in getting the fuck beat out of you along with the 2 minutes...

I do know that if you get your eye blasted out of your face a la Manny Malhotra it's you're own fucking fault for not wearing a visor.

sticks were too heavy to lift that high and few used curved sticks
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

then we had the Stan Mikita incident...changed it all...

Let's think of something whacky and hilarious to tell Spidey that happened in every game for the rest of the season. Such as "I can't believe Thornton tried to give Burrows a handjob in that scrum", or "how 'bout that naked fan that climbed the glass and assaulted Schneider".
Because Spidey's not watching the games you know.

Herb... they are my teeth.. I bought them after losing a few boxing and a mouthful from a stick in the mouth;) and no, the puck didn't slide along the ice after Boom Boom Geoffrion and Bobby Hull popularized the 100 MPH slapshot .. The amazing thing to me is that although Jacque Plante brought in the goalie mask in 1959 most goaltenders didn't wear one until several years later and one NHL goaltender 'Fearless" Andy Brown still didn't wear one 15 years later.. About the same with helmets.. The "macho" image ya know? I don't expect the league to use common sense now anymore than the did with the "mask" or the "helmet"herb wrote:I guess in the 50's and 60's nobody got a stick up and pucks stayed along the ice. There are plenty of posters on this board whom I suspect have been wearing helmets since childhood.

Thought that's what you meant by having the receipt....Tiger wrote:Herb... they are my teeth.. It's amazing how stupid humans can be!
To me, wearing a visor is a no brainer. Fake teeth can be bought and you can still perform the basic function of eating food with fake teeth. Eyeballs cannot be replaced. In many cases, once your vision is fucked, it's fucked.
It's amazing to me when you see a guy like Mats Sundin have a scary eye injury, yet he goes back to playing without a visor. Sami Salo and Chris Pronger were the same way. Eric Staal is now talking about "thinking about" wearing a visor as a result of his brother's incident, but I bet he doesn't.

Really?! Ryan Getzlaf re-signs, $8.25m per for eight seasons.

He bought himself that extra year by signing before July 1st. I can't believe he is getting that much. Look for Perry to take the same deal.
The only HW the Canucks need
