Wow, only two games for Hall's nasty knee-on-knee hit but one game suspension for Hansen... ClutterBUG is only crutches while Mary only missed one period. What kind of message is Shanny sending to all the players??

Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall has been suspended two games for kneeing Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck during Thursday's game.

Hall appeared to deliver a knee-on-knee hit to Clutterbuck, who had to be helped off the ice and didn't return to the game.

Hall received a five-minute kneeing penalty as well as a 10-minute and game misconduct penalty for the hit, which came with under three minutes left in the third period of Edmonton's 3-1 home loss to the Wild.

Wild head coach Mike Yeo said on Friday that Clutterbuck suffered a thigh contusion and the injured forward was seen walking on crutches.

Clutterbuck also stated that he thought Hall's hit was reckless.

This is Hall's first NHL suspension.

I think Shanny is saying if you are a star player two things:

If you are the offender, you get off light.
If you are the victim your injured party will get a heavy suspension.


I really think he weights theses decisions based upon the players stay=us in the league.

The video replay pretty much tells the tale for me.
puck is flicked into the air,hansen reaches up to glove the puck, at the same time hossa is skating backwards,watching the puck,moving towards the area the puck will land,when hansen realizes they are going to collide, he lowers his arm to protect himself from the ensuing collision.

I like to think this unbiased, but Maybe i am looking at it through canuck-coloured-glasses as it seems many who have seen the same replay seem to think it was a intentional elbow

For goodness sakes NHL just set lower and upper boundaries on suspensions and let independent arbitrators knowledgeable in the game levy the suspension. Time to get the discipline away from the central office.

I've been wondering this for awhile myself. For the life of me I don't understand why they let one person make this decision. It invites continued analysis and criticism, which only gets worst over time. It should either be done by an independent arbitrator, or an independent arbitrator in conjunction with a NHLPA representative and NHL representative (like a panel). That way central office still has their say.

Clowe gets two games for starting an altercation after leaving the bench. Upon further video review the league determined he left the bench on a legal line change, not an illegal one, therefore the 10 game automatic suspension did not apply.
