You mean like when he didn't trade a top young player for a 4th line/AHL tweener heading down the home stretch last year?RoyalDude wrote:Here's the problem with Bold Move Gillis, he needs to learn that you must always trade from a position of strength, when things are going well, the stock is high, in which he won't. As Ballard and Tanev are the #1 pairing for the Canucks!
Too bad that's NOT going to happen though, but the way Ballard is playing and stock rising, we should be able to get a quality return, especially for the teams most pressing need - a 3rd line checking center who can put some decent points.
Yeah, outside of a shift with BXA last night, Ballard has looked great. Carrying the puck well. Clearing the zone. Playing off Tanev very well. But, that shift with BXA was effing brutal. 2 turn overs in under 20 seconds. The Killer B's must never be reformed

Re: So, who would you like in a return for Luongo
I believe the field of teams is opening up nicely this season for GMMG to work with.
In the running of Need a Fricking Goalie are:
Toronto
Florida
Carolina
New Jersey - Brodeur is showing his age this season badly
Pittsburgh - MAF can, and should be bought out at the end of this season.
Washington
Phoenix
and there are still a few more on the fence. So, what would I like for Lou? Well, he is getting a little more expensive every day.

Perhaps Washington might not be in *discussions* with the Canucks after all.

McKenzie: Canucks Scouting Yale's Antoine Laganière
Over the weekend Mike Gillis and Laurence Gilman caused quite the stir by attending a Washington Capitals home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Super Bowl Sunday. The ensuing speculation led Gillis to ultimately apologize to to Washington Capital's General Manager McPhee (or if you prefer: GMMG apologized to GMGM), and McPhee ultimately complimented Gillis' class. I find all of that exceptionally boring.
More interesting, is the report from TSN's Bob McKenzie who appeared on the Team 1040 on Monday afternoon and said that the Canucks management team spent some of their time on the East Coast scouting Yale Bulldogs forward Antoine Laganière.

Garrison has been on for two goals against in 9 games. New team, new system. He will be fine. He is basically a bigger version of Hamhuis with a better shot.SKYO wrote:At this point I'd rather keep Ballard and get rid of Garrison lol.

Speaking of Garrison, he needs a setup man for his one-timer. Edler seems to shoot more often than to pass. They are not very effective together on the powerplay.Blob Mckenzie wrote:Garrison has been on for two goals against in 9 games. New team, new system. He will be fine. I agree. Would almost make sense to try a four forwards one D approach with Garrison to make him more of a focal point on the second power play.Jovocop wrote: Speaking of Garrison, he needs a setup man for his one-timer. We've seen this with a lot of players that come to Vancouver, whether it is training or injuries or whatever. It seems to take these guys quite a bit to get comfortable and get into Canucks hockey. GArrison is at least getting the ice time and PP opportunities to work out his stuff, rehabbing an injury over the summer.

So MG and Gillman are in the East scouting US College hockey. While there they are taking in some NHL games. After the internet buzz when they went to the Washington and Pittsburg game they have apologized to other GM's for the controversy and now inform the teams ahead of time that they will be there.

He seems to be trying to do too much as far as controlling the puck instead of getting himself in position to unload that howitzer he possesses. Brian Cambell also is the king of assists. Playing a good puckmoving forward at the point on the PP to feed him would help too.

What about Tanev??? Hate to break up the combo of him and Ballard, but the kid can pass and can be a safety net for Garrison.Strangelove wrote:Agreed.Jovocop wrote: Speaking of Garrison, he needs a setup man for his one-timer. We could end up with BXA paired with Ballard. That hurts !!Lancer wrote:What about Tanev??? But, given how he and Ballard play, why break them up?? They play really well together.

Ray Ferraro made a good point in that Garrison will never score 16 goals again, cause teams are aware of him now, sort of like when Aucoin scored a crap load of goals from the point that one season and never did again. Unfortunately for Garrison, this is his bread and butter so if he isn't doing this then where does he make it up in other area's? Ya got to admit, he ain't the most fleet of foot and can be a bit duh defesnively. We will see, it's still early.
