I do think (again if this team can get healthy) the only glaring hole is the third line center..

It would be great to patch that for the season and those players can be had.. Pahlsson was cheap but ultimately a failure, look how much more marketable - but still very limited - players like Paul Gaustad went for last year.

But I'd rather not dilute the return we could be getting for Roberto Luongo for the sake of a Tyler Bozak or whoever.

There are two 1st line centres and two fourth line centres. With one of the top injured, there is a gaping hole, The team needs someone who can play solid third line centre and sub at 2nd line if needed.

We got to game 7 of a cup final with the 4 centers currently on our roster.

I would like an upgrade but I think we disagree on the urgency of making that change. I also don't think we need to trade Luongo to address that need. Typically vet 3rd liners go for picks in the 2 - 4 range.

I would move Lu for the best young player available and then move draft picks to fill the 3rd line center role.

Fast forward to now, Malhotra sucks, Kesler is war torn and seemingly requires surgery every off season and by the time he is in game shape, if he does come back, by the time he gains his full confidence in his repaired shoulder it will be season 2013/14 and he Sedins will be 33.

So, basically you would like to see Gillis pull another brilliant Pahlsson like trade for a 3rd line centre, give up a 2nd to 4th round pick like he always does. Tell me, what is so wrong with Schroeder? Or are you on board with the horrid drafting and developing system that Gillis has created here. Potatoe, we need kids battling for jobs each and every new year. Teams depend on that. This is something we have not seen under the Gillis regime.

Luongo turns 34 in April, somehow me thinks, especially with this opt out clause that kicks in in two years, that no team is going to give up quality assets for him in the off-season. The time to trade Luongo is now!

I think it is safe to assume that MG has not been offered a true top six that would significantly help us or he probably would have pulled the trigger. I think he has a deal he could take if he felt it would help us but I think he is reluctant because said deal would not make us a significantly better club this year.

I just know that if we are going to get prospects or pick for Luongo, both of which are good moving forward, then I want them when the season is over, not now. You don't trade a player like Luongo now for plugs.

Luongo + Higgins + Jensen for Kessel + Steckel + Reimer. <-- A true top 6 player, and a third line center. (with re-signing Kessel a priority in the offseason)

I still wouldn't mind keeping Luongo this season with another shot of 'proving himself' in the playoffs, then trade him when other teams (philly) can use some amnesty buyouts, where I think we could actually land BSchenn or Sean Couturier.

A team thinking they could go all the way would already have a starter don't you think? And if they had a team set to go could they afford at the deadline to take a piece or two off the team. Yes Kesler required surgery every off season. i guess if you are only counting the last two off seasons you might be right.
You don't have any idea when he will be in game shape and gains his "full confidence" .

We are talking about this year's playoff push. The Sedins will still be 32....no idea why you keep trying to tack on an extra year to their age other than to prop up your flimsy point that the team is old. As has been pointed out to you every time you call them old or aging, many elite players have played at a high level well into their late 30's, but I guess it's easier to just ignore it . ? .
