Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
The World Juniors Canada Selection Camp Roster is out:
Selection Camp Roster
And Canuck prospect Frankie Corrado is invited! He is in tough to make the team, however it is great that he gets a shot.

terrific, but maybe it might upset the Dude I have to say with Tanev and Corrado ( and who knows maybe Price too ) all right handed in the organization they're covered for a player that's pretty sparce commodity in the NHL. Now all we need is Connauton to get his game together and who knows McNally or Anderson Well you can hope rightSouthern_Canuck wrote:The World Juniors Canada Selection Camp Roster is out:

Was Brendan Gaunce ever considered for the invite? A 1st rounder not even on invite list - I would have thought he would have been given a look?

Did you look at the roster? With the NHL lockout, the U20 Canadians are stacked at center among 19 year olds:Tanti09 wrote:Was Brendan Gaunce ever considered for the invite? A 1st rounder not even on invite list - I would have thought he would have been given a look?

Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
Yeah I know that Gaunce doesn't exactly have the pedigree nor the offensive side of the game but he's regarded as a leader and I believe to be very responsible in his zone. If they're picking for 9 scoring forwards and 3 defensive, you would think he may have a chance to sneak in as one of the 3 "4th liners". Then again, he's been injured this year and so not exactly on the radar that way.
Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
This is really a 19/20 year old tourney, next year should be Gaunce's year. He's still 18 year old. There are exceptions but they're in the monority

Tuesday Dec 4
QMJHL
Halifax 5 Cape Breton 3
Honzik was the backup (Trudeau 32 saves on 37 shots)
Wow, Cape Breton is bad. 7-18-2-4 for 20 points and 16th place in an 18 team league.
Trudeau 4-10-1-4 GAA 3.69 SV% 0.890
Bureau 2-4-1-0 GAA 4.30 SV% 0.873
Honzik 1-4-0-0 GAA 6.24 SV% 0.771
OHL
Guelph 3 Kitchener 2 (SO)
McEneny 1 assist, even
GP 26 G 3 A 10 P 13 PIM 16 even
Not bad numbers - after playing only 2 games last season due to a torn ACL, and not being drafted in his first year of eligibility in 2012, looks like another promising free agent.

Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
That Belleville team just doesn't score. They rely on Subban, strong team defence and a good PP. Gaunce may not have great numbers at the end of the year but it can't be the only factor in determining how he is coming along
People were all over Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd in their last years in junior for only putting up 50 odd points but the Hitmen at the time were a lot like the Bellville squad. Coach is coaching to his strengths I would guess.

Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
Agreed - I understand that he is on the 1st PK unit, and playing against other teams' top players - so that should temper expectations for a big offensive year if he is focused on stopping the other team for a lot of his minutes...Blob Mckenzie wrote:That Belleville team just doesn't score. Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
I could be wrong but I thought he played for Canada U-18 and did well, it's usually where they draw their U-20 roster from. So as MG said they can't risk an unhealthy player at the WJC and his injury has prevented him from showing much this season. He thought he'd be there next year
