According to Forbes, the "boys are tied with the Yankees as the 3rd most valuable franchise in the world. Man United and real Madrid top them.

The question would be then, why did they need or take any public money to build God''s Stadium ?

It comes down to simple mathematics. The pure value of that franchise to the city of Dallas and what they mean to it. I mean, it ain't fucking rocket science, if said franchise is the 3rd richest franchise in the FUCKING WORLD and said franchise wants a new MEGA stadium in your city, then you pretty much say 'How Much Would You Like, Sir'.

yeah that's me attracted to the hype of the NFL machine .

I don't like the CFL. I have always thought it was an inferior product . The ocean sized endzone, the fact you can win a game by missing a field goal, the officiating, and the fact 75 % of the teams make the playoffs pretty much make it a bush league imho.

Ok so that was a little unfair, I asked a honest question and threw in a dig, I'll take that back if I can.

Yep there's nothing better than watching an NFL game with the new placement of the ball for kickoffs ten yards ahead and the ultimate kick through the small end-zone resulting in a touch-back. Now thats exciting. The result is we get to watch the touchdown and convert then break to a commercial, watch the said kick-off go through the end-zone then break for a commercial and then watch them start from the 20. Talk about bush league. No I'll take the CFL anyday.

I don't know what you are going on about UK. Dubai??? But seriously, you gotta stop comparing the lowly Lions and the $700 million reno to BC Place to the Cowboys and their mega stadium costs. It's the fucking Dallas Cowboys alright, they are as household as Coca Cola, 3RD RICHEST TEAM IN THE WORLD. Think of it as something like how our government gives tax breaks to the local film industry to keep it competitive with other film centers around the world, the sheer amount of full time, high paying jobs in the film industry makes giving tax breaks do that industry 'GOOD BUSINESS'. Yes, the Lions and Cowboys play the same game somewhat but when you are talking one of the world most well known sports franchises and 3rd richest franchise in the world, I'm sure most Dallas citizens do not mind a little toss in from their coffers. They are the heartbeat of the city. The city of Vancouver would not fold it's tents to a severe depression if the CFL closed it's doors. The Dallas Cowboys are like a giant billboard to the world for the city of Dallas. Who, outside of a few thousand BC'ers and staunch Canadian Football League enthusiasts across Canada give a rats ass, or have even heard of the BC Lions? Nobody

No offense to your beloved CFL, Uk. But the CFL is a minor league sport for American football players not good enough for the NFL. It doesn't justify a 700 million reno to BC Place. Don't complain about one franchise, the Oilers, seeking public funding help for a new Stadium, yet be accepting of BC taxpayers footing the bill of a $700 million reno when Greg Kerfoot was begging to build a stadium for the Caps and Lions with his own money, and not one red cent from the taxpayers. Enough with the double standards here. The right thing for this city to do should have been us bending over backwards in finding land for Kerfoot to build this so called stadium he wanted to build if everyone is so up in arms about taxpayers coughing up dough for sports facilities for privately owned teams to play in.

The marshmallow in bondage should have been roasted.

Move the boat show to the new convention centre. The Leos couldn't fill Thunderbird stadium.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Well keep this in mind, that money did not come from the state of Texas, it came from the city of Arlington. I'm ignorant of local politics in that part of the world but I strongly suspect that $300m might have sealed the deal to have Cowboys Stadium built in Arlington rather than say, Dallas proper or Fort Worth or Plano or what have you.

Basically, the Cowboys could move any number of places other than Arlington (and still be called the "Dallas Cowboys") and the City of Arlington would have lost out, bigtime.

Preferring the CFL is like saying the ECHL is a better product than the NHL.

That's the kind of comment I'm talking about, it really seems to me like it's meant to insult more than anything else.
logically it can't be like the east coast league, just by the numbers alone. there are a lot less places to play pro ball than pro hockey in the world and just as many pro football players as pro hockey players to fill them.
To be honest it's like Canadian fans of American ball are trying to make up for the fact that most of us up here prefer the Canadian brand.
"NFL is real football and the CFL is a joke" is Like its the sports version of little man syndrome.
Enjoy your game but don't ridicule the rest of the country.

Says the guy who made disparaging remarks towards those preferring the CFL over the NFL. Your inconsistency on this board in a number of topics of late has been quite funny to read actually.

Anyways, whose logic are you talking about?

In terms of quality difference, the CFL isn't a step down, it's more like two steps, hence the ECHL comparison. That logic is more than fine, but thanks anyways.

ukcanuck wrote:To be honest it's like Canadian fans of American ball are trying to make up for the fact that most of us up here prefer the Canadian brand.

What the are you even talking about?

You keep creating these false dichotomies in your arguments, and they really have zero validity.

I could care less if you, or anyone else loves the CFL to death, but in terms of quality, IN MY OPINION, the NFL and CFL are incommensurable.

I'm assuming you meant Disparaging remarks about people who prefer NFL over the CFl  since I've never been guilty of knocking CFL fans.

But Hey I'm human and make mistakes, the difference is I can admit when I'm wrong and I try to be upfront with my opinion right or wrong.

But  thanks For the slight anyway, I'm sure you feel Better about it now

Well by your logic if you meant it as a sole remark not meant to insult, the ECHL is more than a couple of steps down, it's way down the list.
The hockey writers.com for example doesn't  even rank it in their top ten leagues...
By default the CFL is the second best league unless you count arena ball , which in sure you will jump on but whatever...

Maybe you meant your comparison as a matter of fact but it sure doesn't cone across as that - sorry

I didn't create the fact that CFL ranks close to the NHL in popularity and far outstrips baseball and NFL football in this country
It's  just fact that the Grey Cup breaks TV ratings records almost annually
I didn't  create the dichotomy it exists whether you like it or not.

coco wrote: I could care less if you, or anyone else loves the CFL to death, but in terms of quality, IN MY OPINION, the NFL and CFL are incommensurable.

that's kind of my point. The CfL is a legitimate sport unto itself and doesn't deserve to be compared the NFL. The Americans have their version, Canada has it's own. They are related but comparing them is like comparing countries ....
Wait you don't like it when I do that...

the key word in my sentence was LIKE as in "it seems this way but I'm not sure"
(the whole country meaning the vast majority of Canadians who prefer the Home Grown version, seriously you didn't get that?)

If you have followed this line of discussion from the beginning it started by comparing the value of the money spent Cowboys Stadium v BC place...

But it seems it's not possible to talk about it with out slamming the CFL and BC Lions.

I just don't get the vitriol is all ...

Finally if you meant your comparison to be factual and not insulting- why the unfriendly response?

What does YOU admitting to being wrong have to do with me?

What do I have to admit?

Stop assuming things that aren't there, and who gives a shit about the CFL being the 2nd best league, when in terms of quality, IMO, it's more than just a step down?

I don't care if you take it as an insult, it was given with a bit of ribbing, but drawing these grand conclusions and breathless arguments is just slightly ridiculous.

Oh my god, you're having real trouble grasping what I'm saying.

I said you're creating a false dichotomy by assuming my comment is necessarily pitted against the CFL and Canada as a whole, and you went on to stupidly assume that it's due to some sort insecure complex.

That's drawing a conclusion without the facts, which in other words is complete and utter bullshit, and it shows why Tater told you to stop talking out of your ass.

Again, with your laughably empty assumptions...

Just because a league is based in the US or Canada doesn't mean preferring one over another has anything whatsoever to do with the country itself.

These are private, corporate entities that offer football in two widely different ways, and the preference for one over the other has sweet fuck all to do with the country the league is in.

ukcanuck wrote:the key word in my sentence was LIKE as in "it seems this way but I'm not sure"

Oh, I got it just fine, but for you to assume my criticism has anything to do with the country itself is fucking stupid, the same way you assumed I was anti Canadian for saying Jim Rome and Dan Patrick are far more talented than any Canadian broadcasters that operate in this here great nation.

ukcanuck wrote:Finally if you meant your comparison to be factual and not insulting- why the unfriendly response?

Wow, seriously?

First of all, get thicker skin and stop asking people to be nicer to you.

Secondly, when you make stupid assumptions, expect to get them thrown back in your face.
