Re: Dan Cloutier signs with the Canucks
When all is said and done Dan Cloutier was consistently a middle of the road NHL starting goaltender for a few years. Yeah he had brain farts and could never raise his game to that of a top 10 or top 5 guy for any extended time but being that 15-20th type guy year for a few years in the NHL makes one a pretty damn good goaltender in the grand scheme of things.
Don't get me wrong I was the first guy in line to drive him to the airport as the canucks needed an upgrade in goal to move forward but consulting is a different gig and given his success in the best league in the world (140 wins or so) he has the credentials. Good for him.

Wonder if Clouts thinks Vancouver is a goalie graveyard too...tantalum wrote:When all is said and done Dan Cloutier was consistently a middle of the road NHL starting goaltender for a few years. with the way we've turned on luongo maybe it is?
BTW I don't disagree with the feeling he chokes at the worst times- A La Cloutier V Deroit but still the guy came here a saviour and leaves somewhat less than that.

Perhaps he should be consulting our bottom 6 grinders instead.

Re: Dan Cloutier signs with the Canucks
It may work out well. Many good coaches are from the ranks of the not so great players. They've had to observe and learn throughout their career just to keep up with the star players that were gifted their talent. Cloutier has gone through the whole gambit of emotional hurdles for sure and if nothing esle is likely well placed to pass on valuable help to young goalies.
Personally I like to see ex Canuck players still within the club it creates a good atmosphere IMO

Too bad goalie fights are rare and count for nothing. Clouts might be one of the best ever.

Wonder if having Clouts standing there watching Marchand have his way with Daniel because he felt like it might have made a difference?FAN wrote:Too bad goalie fights are rare and count for nothing. Clouts might be one of the best ever.
Of course we wouldn't have been there in the final without Luongo so it's mute in that respect, but having a short tempered hard ass for a goalie never hurt in the past.
well at least in the good ol days

Do you remember when we use to argue about who was better Sopel or Holden? Neither do Irats19 wrote:neither were started by you..That makes (in this instance) you a follower....Therefore by double default..I winWhat's the number one rule to Fight Club?

Or hire Gino Odjick to teach our guys how to fight, especially those Sedin guys. *LOL*

Speaking of Holden, sometimes I think Higgins is the type of player Holden should have become.

Re: Dan Cloutier signs with the Canucks
I was a Sopel supporter And was pleased to see him win a SC (despite playing for the Hawks ) ....and asked to play a prominent role at that. Did a lot better than many of the other pretenders
