SEL or KHL anyone?

Post by Tciso »

Seriously, does anyone know where we can catch those games? I'd love to see one of the networks here pick up either league. THey'd make a tidy profit this year. Global TV, I'm talking to you.

Good question, really not sure.

In March, I'm accompanying an MBA class to Leningarad, um, I mean St. Petersburg, so at worst maybe I'll be able to see some NHLers play live this year...although damn it better not come to that.

Yeah. Things are pretty different over in Russia.

They don't need a union to prevent things like players dying on the ice because arenas don't have modern first aid equipment, or players not being paid money owed to them as per the terms of their contracts, or anything like that.

Honestly I don't even know what you're saying. You're accusing me of hypocrisy? :?

The KHL is a league where players can get paid far more than they might be worth elsewhere but there are major tradeoffs such as poor safety standards, a real chance that a team simply won't fulfill its contractual obligations and so on.

Just because players signing in that league don't have a union does not mean there is no need.

Unions are a foreign concept to the ex Socilaist/Communist state, it's the land of the oligarchs. It's a dog eat dog world inside Russia And talking of dogs lets hope players going over there recall Wellwoods account of getting chased by dogs when he tried to walk back to his apartment with groceries in his hand

Ha! Modern first aid equipment? Who needs it?

Why splurge on modern first aid equipment when your entire team airplane blows up on takeoff?

Gotcha. Well that's to be expected, and there's plenty of hypocrisy to go around.
