I was in grade 4 and they brought the TV's into the gym for us to watch the games. I remember not being able to see much of the game from half way across the gum floor and those shitty black and white box's but I remember the eruption when we won and charging across the field screaming and hollering in joy after they let us go early...
but what i will always remember about that series was the way all the adults ripped the players and praised how good the russkies were. its tough hearing your heroes are flawed when your ten...but fuk em if we wondered for a minute if someone else played hockey better than Canada does, we've pretty much laid that one to rest in the years since...

Canada’s 1972 hockey triumph played role in ending Cold War, Harper says

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia — In its own way, Canada’s come-from-behind triumph over the Soviet hockey team in 1972 played a role in the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the end of communism across eastern Europe.
Hmmm so if one buys the theory that the booing in Vancouver woke Team Canada up, spurring them on to victory.... and one buys Harper's theory above.... one could reach the conclusion that my dear ole dad (RIP) (King of the Boo Birds) brought down eastern European communism. :drink:
Docs dad brought down the wall...how cool is that 8-)

Turns out it was twenty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play

but
They have been going in and out of style
unlike those checkered suits, slacks, the sideburns and pornstaches from 40 years ago

And I think Dad did the right thing, the booing woke Team Canada up.

Twas booing killed the beast.
Ok.. I was at the Coloseum in Vancouver and watched every game of the 8 game series..
Problem with Doc's point is the friggin boo birds were booing before the game started.. and cheering the russians and chanting communist slogans.. Yep the East end was out in full farce.. I cheered for Canada.. Bad game.. Tretiak brilliant in goal for Russia .. Canada looked tired and after falling behind 2 goals on 2 dumb penalties by Goldsworthy didn't have enough left in the tank to make it a game.. poor conditioning..

The Turnaround ? Doc.. you got to be kidding.. Turnaround game was game 5 .. 2 weeks later .. yep we lost 5-4 .. a heartbreaker but 3000 canadians stood and sang the national anthem to the team as it was leaving the ice and rink..
F .. the lousy boo birds.. these were Canadians representing Canada..

I wish we had a few players like Esposito on the Canucks.. a quote .." this isn't a game anymore its a war.. I would kill to win "..
" If you cant beat them in the alley - you can't beat them on the ice

Which makes players like MacArther rise above Kulemin.

And then Versteeg over Kulemin.

skill, talent, heart etc.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I was less than two months old...

Henderson is a panty wearing schmuck!

Clarke should be the GM of your Vancouver Canucks....

I heard he would push his grandmother down a flight of stairs if he felt it would give his team an advantage.... (I know, she's dead, it's the thought that counts) We need that kind of leadership...

I don't mean fire Gillis now. I'm suggesting had Aquaman hired Clarkie over GMMG we'd be wearing our Stanley Cup Champions ball caps right now!

twas sarcastic chanting and tworked....

Speaking of East Van, I am yet again reminiscing of graffiti on the side of a church in huge letters:

"WELCOME TO EAST VAN, PREPARE TO DIE!!!"

LOL it remained for about a year....
