Summer Movies...what are you gonna see?

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Unlikely to see this version of Batman end up tying into the Justice League movie. I don't think it fits as Nolan is too grounded in reality. That being said, with Nolan producing next year's Man of Steel, I think that DC may be trying to go the opposite direction from Marvel and darken things and give them a more solid, real world, footing. There is obviously going to be some sci-fi/fantasy elements involved, but DC characters have classically flopped when studios have gone the tongue and cheek route of fun over the top action. Marvel seems to have figured that angle out with the recent Iron Man, Thor, and Avengers offerrings, and have turned out some really fun popcorn flicks. The stories aren't gripping, but the action and classic off-the-cuff humor is present.

Personally I think Nolan's take on Batman is perfect to carry on with, but in any Justice League movie Bruce Wayne simply has to be Batman.

On the whole Robin angle that Nolan took at the end of Rises, Jason Blake is kind of a combination of Jason Todd and Tim Drake.....just sayin.

Ah schucks Ohdee you know I’m a sucker for comic-books-come-to-life.

I’ll gladly take all the corniness they can dish out in exchange for that experience.

Watched this one with my kids...

This one didn’t seem nearly as “dark” to me as the others, but wotever...

Twas awesome watching uppity anarchists get put in their place as per usual!

The thing that ruined it for... my kids... though was Bane and yours truly.

Or more specifically the fact Bane’s voice sounds EXACTLY like

.... MY impression of Sean Connery!

So yeah after Robin shot the 2 bad guys I couldn’t resist leaning over and whispering”

“He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send two of his to the morgue. That’s the Gotham way!”

And of course I had to say... that word... every time Catwoman showed up:

.

Hmmm critics are saying Total Recall is more of a ride than the mindfuck it should be.

Too bad, I love the original storyline by Philip K. Dick.

Yeah, critics aren’t showing alotta love for this film...

No doubt yours truly will THOROUGHLY enjoy it however!

Should've mentioned my kids are not exactly "kids" anymore and that we've watched every single Bond film together.

Oh and a quick googling tells me I'm not the only one to instantly match Bane's voice with that of Sean Connery.

Not expecting much for Total Recall, as the original was awesome for its time, be hard to top that unless you have a great script.

Garbage on film!

Total Recall - What a waste of money and talent! Unfortunately, none of these 2 aspects are a part of this film.

You have high paid actors, 2 female A listers, a highly gross budget, and a lot of money spent for nothing! I am not sure what the purpose of remaking this film was for. The Swarzenneger original was a clever and entertaining film for it's time. If the original was bad, then I would understand why some studio would have an interest in remaking it. Building the creativity of the story.

However, the original did it's part and for what market or audience it was originally intended for, the original did the trick and this is just a sloppy makeover. A film of this kind has but one purpose - to hopefully, ride the coat-tails of the original (without really adding anything clever) in order to try and build up the bank bucks on another unnecessary sequel. Shame on you!

Finally got around to seeing the Dark Knight last night. Gotta say that I liked it, and was impressed with the amount of back story they included in could have been just a pop corn munching series of explosions.

I'm not really interested in Total Recall, mostly since I don't care much for recent remakes.

Next movies I'm looking forward to are the Hobbit and Oz.

Did you mean RT (Rotten Tomatoes)?

If so, they've got it at a mere 31%.

Not that I totally go by that stat cuz hey certain people are gonna like certain movies amirite? :mex:

Besides I tend to agree with Ebert on movies and he liked it:

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbc ... /120739999

I think that top critics like Ebert should carry more weight than the average schmuck reviewer, but wotever.

Metacritic has it at 44 and I notice the FANS at both sites liked it a lot more than the critics.

I think the critics compare it to the original (with Arnold) WAY too much.

Shouldn't they base it on its own merit and how well they brought the Philip K. Dick story to life??

Not a big Colin Farrell fan ever since his hatchet job on one James Sonny Crockett's character on the awful Miami Vice Movie... Some things shouldn't be remade...
