Joslin got to be a defensive specialist. He played for the Checkers.

Canucks aren't the only team Gillis stocks that needs players....
Re: Welcome Derek Joslin and Patrick Mullen!
Good Moose Meat. 2 guys who should keep them competitive, and fill in the holes left when we have call-ups to the big show. Younguns must appreciate that Gillis is looking out for them as well, and not leaving them to suffer in Chicago without some support.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

I was actually wondering what was going on. Expected 1-2 Wolves signing in the first day or two of free agency.
Good Wolves pickups, I suppose. Joslin wasn't very good last season. Don't know much about Mullen, but he has a nice pedigree (dad Joe). 41 points in 69 games in AHL last season = not too shabby (again... for the Wolves).

A buddy of mine who's a Canes fan sent this:
The Carolina Hurricanes bought out the remaining year on Derek Joslin’s contract Saturday after the defenseman cleared unconditional waivers.
Joslin, 25, signed a two-year contract with the Canes in the summer of 2011. He was slated to earn $750,000 in the coming season.
The buy-out clears roster space for the veteran free agent signing the team will pursue and competition expected in training camp. The Canes currently have five defensemen under contract for next season.
Joslin played in 44 games with the Hurricanes last season. He was a regular healthy scratch in the first half of the season, only dressing in 14 of the team’s first 41 games. After a four-game conditioning stint in Charlotte, Joslin dressed in 30 of the team’s final 37 games. However, for the large majority of those games, the natural defenseman was eating up single-digit minutes as a fourth-line winger.
In 61 career games with Carolina, Joslin recorded 9 points (3g, 6a) and was a minus-8

This is exciting stuff. Gillis is really knocking it out of the park lately. I guess this what he means by saying "its about the process".
More like processed cheese if ya ask me.

While looking up how the Chicago Wolves roster might look, I read a little about Patrick Mullen that I found interesting...mpp wrote:Good Wolves pickups, I suppose. - Has offensive talent, as a result was initially used at both wing and defence
- Shoots right
- Is Joe Mullen's son (as noted by mpp above)
- Registered 41 points in 69 games as a defenceman in his 3rd AHL season last year. For comparison, Jordan Schroeder scored 44 points in 76 games as a 1-2 center last season.
Seems like an interesting player... listed at 6'0" 181 lbs, so a little small for the prototypical NHL defenceman, however he might develop further, he is only 26.
