Eurovision 2012

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Eurovision 2012

Post by Per »

It's that time of the year again. The Eurovision Song Contest is held this Saturday.

Seems most bookmakers consider Sweden's entry the favourite.
Here's a link if anyone is interested: http://youtu.be/4nJcmLMb5to

And really, Sweden has hedged the odds a bit... 10 of the 26 songs that have reached the final are composed by Swedes... :?

Apart from Sweden, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Spain and the UK have songs written by Swedes this year. Seems like we're world leading in writing and producing crap.

Albeit a lot of what the others have brought is even worse.

Saw Sweden's semifinal yesterday (didn't bother to see the first one) and it's pretty amazing.
I constantly find myself wondering "what the ---- were they thinking?"

I mean, take a look at the Dutch entry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfofDgg-Jww

Or the Russian one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKNRGc71hjc

:hmmm:

I think the Russians should stick to playing hockey.

Not going to enclose links to everything, but here's a compilation of some of the songs considered favourites this year:

so having heard all about Eurovision since coming to England but never really checking it out, it strikes me that it would be as interesting as Dancing With The Stars which would be waay better if they dropped the Stars and just had Dancing hot babes. Anyway, Since Per brought it it up I thought I 'd have a look at a Eurovision winner compilation 1956-2010 on youtube

I got three observations...
oh my gawd
how do they decide with a straight face?
Celine Dion!???
There's ten minutes I'll never have again..

Fun fact: Engelbert Humperdinck, competing for the UK, is older than 22 of the nations competing.
Not the artists representing them, the actual nations.

And Sweden wins, for the fifth time.
Still trailing Ireland, who have won seven times.

Well, not much compensation for either the Canucks failed cup run or Sweden being eliminated in the world championship quarter final, but we'll take it. :drink:
