Same as it ever was.

I have a bad feeling about Ginger. I know he's got lots n lots of talent. I know he'll get there just like Quick seems to have gotten there.

Using Quick as an example (the dudes are carbon copies, played against each other in high school) is it's taken Quick three and a half seasons as a number one to "get it"! This is Quicks 3rd playoff run as a starter and he's still not proven shit because he's only half way there!

This is what freaks me out! Our window is (this) ________ and history tells us the vast majority of young goaltenders require (this) ____________________________________ until they're able to put it all together. I think Schneider will be a star (perhaps even superstar) goaltender in the NHL. I think there's a real good chance... he'll be peaking when the rest of the team has taken a step back!

I wonna win the friggen cup NOW!

Hey buddy I'm on record as preferring Lou stays (if he prefers to).

I've been studying Schneids closely in interviews.

Now I could be way off, but I'm convinced Cory would actually PREFER to be traded.

Hell he's had a very good view of the Crucifixion of Roberto Luongo and

... HE DOESN'T WANNA BE NEXT!!!

Who could blame him.....

Here's the trade folks. Lou to the Leafs for Tyler Biggs and Carter Ashton. Now you have 3 big skilled gritty wingers in Kassian, Biggs and Ashton and then throw in a 4th 'big' winger in Jensen. Wing is set for the future, now watch Ricky Schroeder dipsy doodle as his big linemates make room for him. Fuck off to all those homo Schenn wants, the guy is useless to us.

Remember, Gillis says he wants to get Bigger, faster and younger.

...well I proudly state that I have always been a less than vibrant fan of the player.

I could go and on (and on) (ad nauseum) again (and again) about how I like the guy and that he's a top 5 netminder and the best we've ever iced but I do have this that and the other issue with his game. That, however, would be re-walking old ground and truthfully I've long since tired of the Luongo debate (and the Ballard debate and the Hodgson debate) and really only continue to throw shit out there on the subject once in a blue thread cause I love all y'all so damn much.

Coco can attest to my distaste for some of the Luongo-isms over the years, we have had many a PM chat about it.

I just never thought (nor do I currently think) he has a Cup in him.

Just my thing, banging on me about his stats and stature, the Olympic Gold and our lack of goals in the Finals last year yada yada yada ain't gonna change my mind just like I'm not going to change anyone elses who thinks otherwise.

So be it...

Well if Luo is the one being moved out it's almost a given that whoever we get back is going to be faster and younger.

Luo is listed at 6'3" 217 so bigger may be a tougher adjective to attain.

Whatever the case Gillis simply needs to find the Right Guard for this team moving forward!

There was a strong argument made in THN that both of TO first round picks would now be categorized as 2nd rounders and that inludes Biggs. ( Yo goota feel for the Leafs...or maybe not ) Carter Ashton big kid but a little short on skills from what I've heard and read. The idea of big wingers with a small centre I like, who can forget Ronning between Sandlak and Momesso. But IMO MG is collecting too many average wingers and sooner or later he's going to run out of Cap Space to make a real deal. We don't need a roster full of average skilled wingers

I always thought Bigger, Faster, Younger seemed like a great idea for this team, but how that's achieved will be as telling as the fact that it's identified as the need.

We could get players bigger than Andrew Ebbett, faster than Andrew Alberts and younger than Sami Salo but all in all that probably doesn't mean much..

Donny Leves, I am not saying YOU are one of the 'fickle pitchfork-toting Canuck villagers'

(I'm sure YOU never fell in love.... and then outta love... with Lou).

But surely you see said hordes of whom I speak?

Because... listen closely good buddy.... they WILL be coming after your man Cory.

Eventually.

If Lou wants out and if Toronto wants him you gotta (GOTTA) get a roster player (Gunnarsson, MacArthur), Colbourn and that 5th overall pick. If you don't get that pick Loungo dosn't land in Toronto. May have to toss in Raymond, Lapierre or a 2nd/3rd ect to make it work. Fuck the Leafs, Burke needs a goaltender BAD!
If he won't part with a prospect and his 5th he should do his best to sell that market on Josh Harding... Image

I'd bend Burke over even if I knew I would get less from Tampa...

My man Cory?..lol..did I say that?

Hey, let it be known if Luongo stays I'll be cheering for him just as hard as for Schneider or whomever.

Also let it be known that if the deal is keep Roberto becuase the return for Cody brings back a BEAST (forward or D) then I'm all good with that as well.

It's about team man.....

..I recall watching Luongo in a Canada Cup semi-final a few years back ('04 maybe) and Brodeur was hurt so Roberto had to play a semi-final game (maybe) against the Czechs I think it was.

He won in OT and faced a bushelful of shots (we were outshot 2-1 in the game or something like that...a typical Luongo win) but I was just never really comfortable with some of the stuff the guy did with his game.

There seemed (to me) to always be failure looming in the guys play whereas with Roy or Brodeur or Hasek (or McLean in '94) you wondered how the fuck you were going to score on the guy.

That's always stuck with me about Luongo.

I completely understand that is just me and my feelings/hunches mean fuck all as to what is happening in the actual game but I'm just attempting to explain my discomfort with the player.

Anyways that's where it originally stemmed from and after his first year here I thought maybe I was wrong and things would go differently but Luongo is who I thought he was.

To me anyway.

:P

As always, thanks for the update HW.

I think keeping AV is the right move if he still has the support of the players. I'm not so sure about giving him a 3-4 year extension. I'd rather they sign him to a 2-year extension, but at the end of the day its not my money.

There are no obvious candidates out there that are certain to be as good or better than AV at the moment, so canning him just for the sake of it doesn't make sense.

Yup, Donny was irked by certain Luo-isms before Roberto lost his god status amongst Canucks fans.

Ironically though, it seems Luongo is maturing and dealing with things a lot better, but then again, if he actually wants out, he's smart enough to play nice until a deal gets done.

It's no secret I'm a big Luongo fan, but at the end of the day it comes down to pragmatism for me.

Typically, NHL goalies take time to develop, and the best way to ensure a goalie lives up to his potential, is brining him along slowly and giving him plenty of time as a number 1 in the AHL, then having him as a back-up in the NHL for a year or two.

If you were to draw out the perfect way to develop a prospect, and the type of goalie to draft, then the way Schneider was developed by the Canucks should be the blue-print. Having Luongo allowed management to have patience.

As for skills and pedigree, Cory was arguably the top US high school goalie when he committed to Boston College, he was a first round NHL pick, he then became the best goalie in the NCAA at BC, at Manitoba he became the best goalie in the AHL, and now he's one of the best young goalies in the league.

There's nothing in his history or current play that suggests Schneider will not live up to his potential, and his patient development has him poised and ready to be a great NHL goalie.

That doesn't guarantee he will be as good or better than Luongo, but he should be close in terms of ability, and he's 7 years younger.

Not brown nosing Doc but this is what I was aluding to when I said:

ODB wrote:Ahhh yes, let's pile on Luongo. He needs a shrink! Best goaltender in franchise history... Don't believe me, look at his stats! But ya, lets shit all over the guy! Woot woot... Gonna be a long summer....

I wasn't directing the post at Donny. I was simply talking about how many people are suddenly down on Luo... now that he's apparently on his way out.

Pitchforkers, an elegant way of putting it Doc!
