When you compare it with the Vcr forwards....big difference.....you have to say AV gets more out of his roster than most coaches. After S+S+K+E+Borrows+goalie Vcr has very little IMO

Love to get Hedman over here, but I keep hearing he's untouchable, as of course is Stamkos.

I could very well be wrong about Schenn, but personally I'd gamble on him if he came cheap.

I read somewhere after the trade deadline Burke offered Gillis Schenn for Hodgson and was told Hodgson is not available. Burke was pissed when Hodgson was moved a few weeks later. If Gillis wasn't interested in Schenn for Hodgson I'd be surprised if Gillis would accept Schenn for Lou, unless that 5th overall-pick was also involved.

It's been reported that Gillis hates Burkie to pieces!

(I just heard Doug MacLean re-iterate that this morning).

I think MG might be one of those half-dozen GMs who won't talk directly to him (they go through Nonis).

Yup, we'd hafta also have that 5th or something similar....

Then you agree that IF AVAILABLE he's likely the only Top Ten goalie available? :mex:

Island Nucklehead wrote:Is Luongo THAT much better than Kipper to offset the increased cost?

Can't see Kipper being available, who would start for the Flames?

Island Nucklehead wrote:Bernier's pedigree is remarkably similar to Schneiders (first round picks, AHL goalie of the year awards) and Bernier is 2 years younger. So while (just like Schneider) he isn't a starter yet, he will be in demand. If Tampa has their sights set on CS, and Gillis insists they take Luongo, they could very well pick up Bernier.

Everyone knows Schneids is RIGHT NOW a #1.

Bernier played in 16 games last season (and his numbers don't even compare).

Tampa might have been interested in picking up Bernie at the deadline.

You know give him a buncha starts, see if there's any hope of him being a 1b next year, a starter ONE DAY.

But that's a huge difference to handing him the starter role from the begining of next season.

Like I keep saying, Lou/Schneids is likely the only Top Ten goalie available this summer =

EDIT: LA is probably best-served in hanging onto Bernie one more year to hopefully up his value.

I've been thinking about your Luke Schenn idea and I actually do like it (for the reasons you mentioned), but I have a few questions:

1) Do you think a guy like Luke Schenn can realistically be a difference maker for next season? My concern with getting a guy like Luke Schenn, is that he won't help up next year.......kind of like how Zack Kassian was bloody useless for us this year. While it's great that both of these guys might become good/great players one day, I still believe that our window to win is next season.....before this team starts to head into gradual decline.

That's a very good question FL.

I'd say if he shows he's not ready we'd be forced into making a deadline deal for a BEAST

..... and hope Schenn becomes the real deal the next season.

Farhan Lalji wrote:2) If we're dealing Luongo to Toronto, then I think it needs to be more than Luke Schenn and a first. It needs to be Schenn, a 1st, and a prospect (I don't expect James Gardiner, but some other decent prospect).

Yeah, perhaps. Don't forget that 5th overall is pretty huge though.

It's an asset we could flip in another deal.....

So if Brian Burke offers the Canucks 2 deals:

<prospect> can be Gardiner or someone else worth looking at, regardless it would be the same prospect in both trades:

1. To Canucks: Schenn, <prospect> / To Leafs: Luongo
or
2. To Canucks: Schenn, <same prospect>, 5th overall pick / To Leafs: Schneider

Which one do you take?

... I highly doubt Gillis does Burkie the favour of trading him Schneids (he'll see to it another team wins the lottery).

And I doubt low-ball Burke offers enough.

Nick Kypreos on how to start a rumour:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/video/mostviewe ... ngos-list/

Kypreos: “I’m not convinced if Toronto is a choice of destination... I think more than anything things kinda get out there to kinda check the temperature of the water and I’m not convinced. I know, y’know I do believe that the Toronto....”

Millard: “Now what do you mean by that, that Toronto’s not”

Kypreos: “Just y’know, y’know, Doug can allude to this, sometimes you just put things out there to see y’know where the interest is, where it’s gaged...."

.... later on the same clip:

Doug MacLean: "Now let’s not forget that there’s a Nonis-Luongo history, he made the original trade, but there’s also a Nonis-Burke-Gillis history that I really believe will make this deal tough to make. I guarantee you that Mike Gillis is not gonna do a soft deal with Brian Burke for Luongo. This myth that’s out there that people are just gonna take this guy... I think it’s.. I just don’t think that it’s accurate."

Ex-GM MacLean said Gillis should ask for Hedman + Tampa's first for Lou.

I think I'm starting to like this guy.....

Seriously, The Arms is the bomb, if there is a pub that would get me off the North Shore and into the Tri-Cities, it's the ARMS. I had no idea the place existed, until we were heading down the hill there looking for burgers and beers on our lunch break and we saw it in the strip mall. Walked in, the place was packed with dodgey-eyed, weathered, miserable drunks, blind dudes who new how to get to the washroom by heart without a walking cane, worn out waitresses who probably at one time in their lives were hot babes with great bodies, good hockey viewing environment and classic pub style cheeseburgers, loved it.

Finally, some of ya's is starting to see the light of what really is, with this team. After a certain few players, there is a serious drop off in the talent pool. I just can't stand the mix after The Sedins, Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Hamhius and the two goalies. I do like Kassian, Tanev and Hansen, but seriously, the rest can fucking go. I don't like having players on our team that make people want to seriously beat us, so I don't understand the benefits of a Lapierre. He does more harm than good. I'm about done tired with Bieksa's too cool for school style of play that makes him do stupid Stupel/Dopel type things and I love Salo but he is starting look old. Ya all know how I feel about dumbnuts Booth, and the YAAAWWWWWN players in Pahlsson and Malhotra, Can't stand Dale 'Oreskovich' Weise. He can't fight, can't play, so what good is he? There is a reason Chris Higgins has played on 5 different teams in his young career. He's just not a big game player. Ya all know that I am giving MayRay the benefit of the doubt due to his back injury. I am willing to give him one more chance. I just like his skill set, just needs to get fucking stronger and more confident. Not sure what Gillis is gonna do here. Our 2nd and 3rd lines need serious help and overhauling. We need better options on our 2nd than Booth and whomever else it was on that line. I think they seriously have to graduate some guys to the big club ie, Schroeder and and throw the likes of Kassian and Jensen to the wolves and run with them.

Gillis needs to hit a homerun return with whomever goalie he trades

This trade for one of our goalies is make or break for MG, the pressure is on.

It's hard to look at this team after they've enjoyed so much success in both the regular season and playoffs and say they're terrible...let's blow it up.
Sure u can argue Booth and Pahlson are new, there's no Ehrhoff blah blah blah but this is a team that knows how to win and just didn't look motivated to do what it takes. Bieksa and Lappy were pretty important pieces last year dude. I think we just need a rest to get the fire back and I look for a better season next year. We should have some new blood in there from the Luongo trade which should help.

We need immediate as well as lasting benefit in return for our 1A/B. More than a Schenn.

Give me a package that brings Ted Purcell or James van Riemsdyk.

The way van Riemsdyk's played the first couple of games this round, Philly has likely tightened their grasp on him. Damn the Flyers are just swimming in young forwards. Which one would they give up? Apparently Couturier's hockey IQ is extremely high, everyone knows about Giroux, Schenn's a huge talent, Simmonds brings them an element of toughness, van Riemsdyk's size and skill is rare, Voracek is a solid set up man - very gifted with puck, Matt Read has a solid offensive upside and even Eric Wellwood is going to be a solid 3rd line guy who can shut down opposing players and play strong PK minutes. Then you have the vets Briere, Hartnell, Jagr.

Last years van Riemsdyk performance was enough to convince me.
I swore off this year’s NHL playoffs after April 22nd.

Holmgren did well re-tooling the flyer offense. Not so at the back end. Let’s make a deal.

PS - It's the proposed L. Schenn trade that I referenced.
