With the harsh suspensions, congress can't easily accuse the NFL of not taking this seriously.
Funny thing is, when I played football, my coaches would say similar things...maybe not "kill the fucking head" or "rip his ACL," but we heard phrases like, knock him cold, put him to sleep, etc.
It gets a lot more dicey when money is involved and clear calls to cause specific injuries, but the nature of the sport is extremely violent as it is.
Not excusing the Saints, and the punishment was just, but I can't believe that this is an isolated incident, and if it isn't and the case goes to congress, we might see a bevy of other examples from different teams/eras come to light.
