Last year AV gets the team to the SC finals. The consensus as to why they lost is that the Canucks players were unable to deal with the Bruins in your face style of hockey. This year the LA Kings bring a hard fore check and clog the front of their net, absolutely level the Canucks best center man and for the most part play in your face hockey. The results are similar to last year, only a lot quicker (pardon the pun).
Pretty much the same personnel with the same result. While AV may ultimately be the scapegoat the fact remains there is a personnel problem, as to how the team is built and how it responds to teams that play a certain style. If the team as a whole is deliberately tuning out the coach to the extent it results in a first round loss, which I somehow doubt, then there is an even bigger personnel problem and a lack of professionalism amongst the Canuck players, which I again doubt.
Chalk this one up to the evolving business of team sports. Hopefully Gillis realizes certain needs have to be addressed in order to make it in playoff hockey. It is far to easy to point the finger at the coach.
