Let me think on that one...
Actually if you're looking at trading away Edler, Edmonton is a prime candidate to get fleeced in that trade. I expect they'd give up a ton for a defenseman like Edler, sell him to the fan base as a #1, somehow find a way to increase his cap hit by 3-4 million (just cuz its Edmonton). They sound pretty cool on Nail, not the kind of player they think they need, so Edler might garner the 1st + a prospect.

dumb idea as the cap hit and length would kill us. Toronto still has Darcy Tucker taking up cap space.

As for Luongo's trade value, why would it be any less than that of a three year older Miikka Kiprusoff?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I love the idea of bringing Weber home but he is the Captain of the preds and their franchise guy. Even though he is RFA I have a hard time seeing him wanting to leave. Preds are on a roll, they have Radulov back (he'll be expensive next year) and a few other things going for them.

I think Suter as a UFA is more likley. Only problem is that we need a right hand shot and I believe Suter is a lefty. Still, atm Suter seems a more reliable fit than either Elder or Ballard... although Ballard is looking a lot better.

Either way I do think we need a big #1 Dman. Hard to find.

If Edler is going to Edmonton I'm going to once again say "Eberle or bust". He'd be a great top 6 addition.

Lou has value in a trade...just a question of who his picks are.

Suter isn't coming to Canada (his words or so I recall) so my fantasy moves in the Weber direction.

Maybe we should hope the Preds win the Cup and Shea will be satisfied that he has done what he can do there.

Anyways I don't honestly believe Shea Weber is coming home.

Just shooting the shit discussing possibilities and needs....

So if we aren't going to shop for a top D in the Pred's kitchen cupboard the question is:

Who else could we find and where does this guy reside?

Toronto's Gunnarsson, Gardiner or big guy Schenn in a blockbuster package involving Luongo.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Burkie gonna take on one of those long term cap friendly deals he bashed the hell out of?

“We lost out on the Brad Richards sweepstakes for two reasons,” said Burke, who is believed to have offered the player a six-year, $42-million deal. “One, we didn’t offer as much money as other teams and more importantly we didn’t structure the contract like other teams did."

"I don’t mind being on an island. I’ve done it consistently throughout my career where I believe there’s a principle involved. Until the league reached this settlement, in my mind, these deals constituted cap circumvention and I have steadfastly refused to do them."

"Burke has long been against this practice in the NHL and will not do it for his own team".....

I just don't see Luongo waiving his NTC to go to Toronto. It's in the right time zone but still too far north, crappy of a organization and with probably even more media scrutiny.

Being the big fan of Jersey Shore that he is, maybe he'd agree to become a Devil... just as long as he doesn't have to play on Thursdays.

Yeah, just to be clear, those aren't my words, they were taken from the article I pulled the quotes from.

I fixed it now....

Boy, just looking around the league - if the cap really goes up to $70m as it's supposed to do under this CBA (and as Bettman has instructed teams to assume it will in the next) it is going to be an absolute gong show trying to get players signed under reasonable deals.

With a $70m cap the worst off team is San Jose who have 9 roster spots to fill at $1.6m a pop. Every other team in the league has at least $2m per opening, the Canucks would have almost $2.5m per roster spot. Detroit would have $4.4m for each opening on their roster.

Maybe Rick Nash wouldn't be so bad after all..
