Tuesday April 10

AHL

Chicago 2 Texas 5
Climie 8 saves on 11 shots (replaced by Lack 11 saves on 12 shots)

Rodin, (8) (Roussel, Parent)
Jensen, (1) (Matson, Doell)

The bad news is that Chicago's lead in the Midwest Division remains at 4 points with 3 games remaining - this was a chance to put a stranglehold on 3rd overall in the Conference. The good news is that Jensen scored his first pro goal, assisted by Taylor Matson whos is on an ATO after his NCAA senior season. Oh, and veteran Kevin Doell, expected to carry the offence along with Haydar going into the season, is back from injury.

QMJHL Playoffs

Quebec 5 Halifax 3
Hannay 0 points, -2
Grenier 1 goal (2nd), -2

Halifax trails series 0-3

OHL Playoffs

Brampton 3 Niagara 6
Friesen 1 goal (6th), +1

Niagara leads series 3-0

After sweeping the regular-season series with four one-goal wins over Chicago, San Antonio draws the Wolves in
the first round of the playoffs... The Rampage have never won a playoff series, losing in three straight to Norfolk in
2003 and falling in a Game 7 to Toronto in 2008... After beginning the season in Charlotte, Jon Matsumoto finished
at the top of San Antonio’s scoring page with 23-37-60 in 76 total games... Bill Thomas (27-25-52), Bracken Kearns
(22-30-52) and Greg Rallo (22-20-42) also cracked the 20-goal mark for the Rampage... In their first season as
Vancouver’s top affiliate, the Wolves won the franchise’s fourth division title in the last eight years... Eddie Lack
had a .932 save percentage in 12 playoff games for Manitoba last season, including a 55-save effort in a tripleovertime
Game 7 loss to Hamilton in the second round... A Calder Cup champion with Milwaukee in 2004 and
Chicago in 2008, Darren Haydar is the AHL’s career leader in playoff goals (59), assists (76) and points (135)... In his
last trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs, Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish tallied 5-4-9 in seven games for the
Springfield Indians as a 22-year-old in 1981... Chicago is playing as the higher seed for the 14th consecutive series.
SA had the upper hand vs Chicago during regular season, but we all know that means nada once the real season starts. A sidenote to keep a track of (if you care), Bracken Kearns is a local guy (North Shore) who made his NHL debut this year at 30+ and many of us have probably played hockey against him if you're in that age bracket. It will be interesting to see who performs for the Wolves this series.

Crazy about Jensen's intro the AHL. 6 goals in 7 games already? 2 last night, a hatty the other? What's the deal? Is this the case of a player out grown and lost in Junior needing to be playing with better talent?

Between his play and Schroeder's great play lately, there is still hope for our futures. Hoping Schroeder can be our Andy MacDonald or Derek Roy. Connauton may very well live up to Chef Boi RD's expectations. Seems to me we need to park a more rook friendly coach behind the Canuck bench next year in Mac T. AV just hates the kids, it will be his downfall like we have seen from coaches in the past who don't trust the kids and would rather play boring ol' lame veterens with low end skill set. When coaches start playing it safe, it always ends up being their demise.
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau
