NFL Thread: Thoughts on the game south of the 49th

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Apparently Congress is sniffing around as well, much like after the Canseco book...

Rock 'em Sock 'em football.

It's becoming a growing certainty that this will be dragged into to congress, and Goddel must have seen it coming.

With the harsh suspensions, congress can't easily accuse the NFL of not taking this seriously.

Funny thing is, when I played football, my coaches would say similar things...maybe not "kill the fucking head" or "rip his ACL," but we heard phrases like, knock him cold, put him to sleep, etc.

It gets a lot more dicey when money is involved and clear calls to cause specific injuries, but the nature of the sport is extremely violent as it is.

Not excusing the Saints, and the punishment was just, but I can't believe that this is an isolated incident, and if it isn't and the case goes to congress, we might see a bevy of other examples from different teams/eras come to light.

...no way it is isolated.

Both Golic and Darrin Woodson have admitted on ESPN that bounties were around, if not prevalent, when they played.

Can you imagine Jack Lambert, Ted Hendricks, Dick Butkus, Jack Tatum et al?

Weren't we all...at some point? (sans the drugs, other than ganja, but that's not performance enhancing)

In some ways, the NFL has likely come a long way, now it's money bounties, not illicit materials/activities.

If this investigation was done 20-30 years ago, we'd be talking trafficking, racketeering etc.

Those were the days. Even players on the clean-cut Packers were knee-deep in the NFL lifestyle.

What I would pay to see a HBO style behind the scenes of the Cowboys though. The stories Irvin and Deoin tell are just epic.

..fukin Irvin at Fort Worth hotel, shirtless, music blaring with naked girls dancing on the bed behind him and coke dust falling out of his nasal cavities says to the local Cop..

"....don't you know who I am?"

Then he shows up for court in a full length mink coat to face the drug charges.

Why do you think hockey avoids anything more specific than upper and lower body designation when talking of injuries?

..wow.

More and more of these guys are demonstrating just how fucked up they are when they leave the game.

I guess posthumous will be his HOF induction.

C'est la vie.

Shot himself in the chest so the brain is intact for research.

Gary, are you paying attention, because Roger certainly is.

Jim Harbaugh is clearly a helluva a coach.

But one unlikeable, whiny assed mother fucker as well.

To bad the Hawks don't have a QB.

Helluva a D though.

That Niners defense is great as well but that Seahawk D slaps you upside the head.

Fuk that secondary is big and they hit to hurt.

A trip to Century Link for the rematch may just be in order here.

December 23rd though.
